i was wondering is there any differences in formulas between the different cartridges?

meaning can you take the ink out of another cartridge within the same family or form factor and use it in another ?

for example the hp 10 yellow is part c4842a and the hp 11 yellow c4838a.

the only differences i can see between the 2 yellows are just the spacing of the plastic ribs on the bottom next to the chip hole.

i do know the chip may have a different programming.

but is there any differences in the formulas between the 2 yellows that could cause damage to the printhead if you say extracted the ink from the hp 10 yellow and put it in the hp 11 yellow cartridge or take the cartridges apart and swap out the ink pouch from the 10 to the 11 yellow.

same would go for the magenta and cyan.

the black i think would be safe to do that because the printer i have hp business 1100 uses the hp 10 black and the other 3 colors are hp 11.

i sort of already did that for the cyan because i was trying to get the ink puch out of an hp 10 cyan and i damaged the metal crimping on the black pump bulb causing the ink to leak so i then extracted the ink to salvage it for use in the refillable cartridge .

You won't damage anything by exchanging dye ink with dye ink or pigment ink with pigment ink within the same nozzle technology. Epson uses a cold mechanical processs to eject ink while most other manufacturers use a boiling process. You don't want to mix inks from those two processes. For all I know, there may be some manufacturers that use both processes so make sure before you mix.

However, there may be differences in the tinting of the inks. I know this to be the case between Canon BCI-6 cartridges and Canon CLI-8 cartridges. The magenta and cyan are noticeably different. But it doesn't hurt anything to use ink from one in the other. In fact, if someone was desparate, they could put the more expensive and smaller capacity CLI-8 cartridges in a printer designed for BCI-6 cartridges but the colors would be off. It might be possible to use a profile to bring them back to where they should be.

HP 10, 11, 12, 88 inks are all interchangeable. You must have appropriate base. You can take 10 ink and put an 11 base on it and it will work fine as long as the cartridge is still in date. The ink level will not read correctly thou. You can buy resettable bases for HP 10 black, 11 color, 88 and a couple others. That way your ink shows in-date and the correct level. I bought mine on eBay from seller auctionvalue.
