Congratulations with the reset, but I don't understand why service mode wasn't locked. Others have experienced service mode getting locked by using service tool v3400 or older on printers of the PGI-x50/CLI-x51 cartridge generation.

Hi @PeterBJ

MG6350 seems to be one on the 1rst printer using x50/x51 cartridges.
I can read reviews of this printer in 2012.

I bought my MG5150 (using x25/x26) in the same year (2012).

That 's why, maybe, service tool v3400 could work with some first MG6350 printers (1rst firmware) ?
Because, at this time, v3400 was the last version available of service tool ?

Thank you for the info. This seems to be like the iP7250 the druckerchannel staff had luck in resetting, while others experienced locked service mode with the same printer model and other printers of the same cartridge generation.

I have a service tool v3400. It is dated 6th of April 2012, but I don't know if this is the date the tool was written or it is the date I downloaded it. I also have a version 3600 of the service tool which is dated January 9th 2015.

I think your theory is very plausible. This also explains why some Pro 1, Pro 10 and Pro 100 models can enter service mode and work with V3400 service tool while others can't.

For those who are lucky to have one of the early PGI-x50/CLI-x51 printers that work with service tool v3400, I think it would be a bad idea to update the firmware. You might lose access to service mode.

And here is a mysterious case of an MG6220, that seems to also have locked service mode, but the MG6220 is of the earlier PGI-225/CLI-226 cartridge generation for which service mode operations with V3400 service tool normally are possible, so was this a late model of this cartridge series and had Canon introduced the service mode block in this printer model?

Hey guys,
thank you for the great information about the printer.
Unfortunately I have the same problem: i used the service tool (old v3400) and the service mode hangs. Is there any possibility to solve the problem? Otherwise, the MG6450 did a great job for 7 years.

I have Canon MG7120 printer. I tried to reset the ink absorber counter with Service Tool v3400, but service mode was locked. Maybe someone know how to unblock it? I have a file for the MG7140 model (full analogue of MG7120 but for a different country). If I use this EEPROM in my printer, I probably won't be able to use the cartridges that are currently installed. Will changing the "Set destination: Region" in Service tool solve this problem?

No, the region of the needed cartridges is locked in the firmware and region changing from service mode cannot change that. You can only change items like display languages and paper formats and if metric or imperial measures is default.

The MG7140 is a Region 4 printer and you will need Region 4 cartridges PGI-450/CLI-451 which are for use in Africa, Middle East and Russia.

Yes, it's clear. I'll buy refillable cartridges PGI-450/CLI-451 on Aliexpress.
Thank you!
