Maxify MB5440 ink absorber

Hi

Signed up today after having no luck with the likes of google at all :)

I have a 5 year old Canon Maxify MB5440 which is reporting that the ink absorber is nearly full.
I can't find any information anywhere on where this absorber pad is located or how it can be removed or cleaned.
Does anyone have information on cleaning or replacing these on the MB5440?

I have downloaded service tool v5103 found on printermanual.net which I believe, from information seen here, will be needed to reset the absorber counter. Are there other trusted links for the correct service tool?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

OK, so this became urgent this morning. After replacing cyan ink the printer went into error code 5B00. I don't have access to tool v5204 and we need the printer up and running for my wife's small business. Unfortunately that time of the month where there isn't enough funds to go around and I'm seeing this tool at $24+.

Please, if anyone can assist with another process to reset this counter it would be greatly appreciated.

The service tool can be found at a much lower price ar Ebay. Here is a version 5204 at €3.99 or $4.44. It is claimed to support your printer.

I have also downloaded a v5103 for free. It was not fully functional, but luckily caused no damage. I recommend not to use that version.

Fantastic! Thank you. I will order that in prep for the next time this happens.

Unfortunately had to drop the printer off at a print shop this morning to get them to reset it.

They used v590 so I assume they meant v5902.

So some time after resolving this issue, the printer started showing signs of clogging up real bad.
I can't get a print head here, so it's AliExpress, etc.

Anyway, pulled the print head out and indeed the thing is caked in muck. Cyan hasn't printer in months.
The pads in the printer where the heads rest for cleaning were also a little gunky.
The ink waste tank round the back had some nasty black junk in it.

Over a few days I kept wetting the bottom of the head and it started flowing again. Had to get a secondhand MB2140 off marketplace in the meantime.

I ordered a inkjet head cleaning kit. Just some cleaner and syringe, etc. Head was unclogged anyway, but I ran a few millilitres through it gently as a flush. Then let it dry.

Printer has been offline for about 2 weeks now.
Refitted the print head now and unfortunately the thing comes up with an immediate error 6700.
Checked the pins and pads, they're all clean and undamaged.

Is that a toasted print head or just the thing being offline for 2 weeks?
I've seen some videos for a MB5410 that had a 6700 error and they simply set the time in the software tool. I might have to get that tool afterall.

I'm going to disassemble again and make sure all connectors on the board are properly seated.

Risky? Don't feel like 2 dead printers though.

There is only one type of printhead, so you can exchange them.
Also observed "mud" at the nozzles, seems the wipers cannot clean all.
Could be related to 3th party inks too.
Anyway, after dismounting and wiping off the head underneat my nozzle checks were perfect again.
So don't thing the head is toast too early.
In my experience the Maxify is rather picky with ink, I now use the Canon bottles for the refillable versions.

And yes, get a suitable reset tool.
I did it to test, not because the pads were full (you can find the version in my Maxify thread).
Just in case, the purge tube exit is on the upper right corner, you could access it with minimal dismantling to connect to a printer potty.

I plan on a printer potty at some point if I can get this working again.

Only been using 3rd party ink for less than a year. The amount of waste ink looks like more than a year's worth though, but then again that could be from constant print head cleaning cycles. But again to that, we've been doing that for longer than we've been on 3rd party inks. They sure do rip us when the branded inks here.

Just will never know what an ink will do. The branded inks are a real hit on the finances though.

I've looked at some other threads that reported a 6700 error and it seems to be clock related.
I'll buy the reset tool at the end of the month; got surgery tomorrow so I'm out of it for a few days.
