This printer is starting to get up my nose, its doing things that no normal printer has done on me before..

When I first was using I.S. inks, the black channel was always clogging, then I switched to using 3rd party Chinese inks, then the Magenta channel started to clog, I’m now using OEM ink and its causing the yellow channel to clog.

I was using the printer yesterday quite bit more than I normally would, so there’s no excuse for it to clog again, but this morning its back to its old tricks with the yellow channel missing again.

The only good thing I can say is that it prints normally again after a quick clean, it’s as near to a perfect printer as I can get but it still bugs me..

It might be the cartridge and not the ink. Maxify carts, even OEM, are pretty "temperamental".
In my case, no clogs with third part Inktec ink. Only when a cartridge is replaced sometimes I need to perform an extra cleaning cycle, because the magenta or the yellow bands in the nozzle tests are partially contaminated with cyan ink.

Ah, thanks, learned something again, did not know that "Maxify" is a printer series from Canon. 🙈

I've got cloggs on some colours too, without an understandable pattern, a strange beast indeed.
I am happy now and print a lot, IMO the machine likes this.
C and Y are from GI-56 bottles, M is still happy with octopus-office.de, and BK is from an expired PFI-701BK cart.
As said, trial and error.

Mine will never print the yellow nozzle check strip unless I select high quality. I agree they are a quirky printer range but I think Palombian made a valid point in that they like to be printng regularly.

The most important thing I have found when refilling is to get as much air as possible out at the end as it seems to make a difference as far as any initial leaks goes after putting in the carts.

Mine has just thrown a couple of low ink warnings so it is time for another battle with it :)

Maxify and Pixma range of printers apparently are designed and manufactured by different divisions inside Canon. So, what applies for Pixmas it doesn't for the Maxifys and vice-versa.
The ARC on the cyan cart of my MB5150 refused to return to full condition after it was declared empty and reinstalled. It has remained in 'unknown' condition for months, but cyan ink continues to flow normally for the time being. I'm curious to know what will happen when the ink control chamber detects that the cyan ink is exhausted. Some kind of error, I suppose,

Low ink doesn't cause problems anymore.
When a colour (with ARC) goes empty, I open the front door, remove the cart and refill it in the basement (and seal the ink outlet with a piece of alu tape).
IMO it is less hassle to respect the official procedure instead of refilling all together (as with resettable chips). I don't care about the eventual extra ink flushing, it occurs with fresh OEM carts too and it is a good cleaning.

With 2500 carts I have to do this about every 2 months.
When you are in this routine the ARC's, once synchronized, seem to follow the actual ink levels quite well.
Since it is not mandatory to refill immediately after the red cross appears, with some feeling you can postpone this and adjust the ink level to the chip.
There is a second protection level, although it doesn't always work.
So watch your printer output.

Everybody seems to agree.. the Maxify loves to play truant on you where possible, but overall it’s a hardy old printer.. I must say, I still have a great affection for the Feckin thing, even if it does drive me crazy some days..
