Keep your printer turned on 24/7 or power it down after every use?

Do you turn off your printer or do you leave it powered on?

hmmmmm, always thought it best to leave on 24x7, so they can do periodic print head cleanings. rationale that refill ink is less $ than buying/finding a new print head.

then again my 4 active printers are older models, introduced between 10 and 15 years ago that are still chugging along, MX700, MX870, MP980, PRO-100

not sure about the newer models

Same here, my PRO-1000 is always on. However, I don‘t think it does any automatic cleanings as long as no print job is triggered. And the consensus seems to be that leaving it on actually saves ink, because the printer runs more elaborate cleaning cycles when being powered on.

I don't believe for a moment that leaving a Canon printer always on saves any ink at all. My Maxify stays most of the time totally disconnected from the mains power. Instead, my Pro10 stays off, but connected by cable to the power outlet. The Maxify performs less cleanings than the Pro10 or any other Canon printer I owned in the past.

You're right of course about cleaning cycles. Printers never perform maintenances by themselves. If you leave a printer on for a whole year it won't do nothing. You must start a cleaning job to trigger the timers that regulate the cleaning schedules.

The only thing I got against leaving the printer on 24/7 is the lifespan of the print head, as far as I can tell it shortens it, so be aware of that, Canon don’t build in timed automatic shut downs for nothing..
because the printer runs more elaborate cleaning cycles when being powered on.
The only time the printer will run larger cleaning cycles is when you have disconnected the printer from its power supply.. The difference is Minuscule anyway..

Brother printers do - it seems to be in the range of a 14 day cycle - on its own, even if the computer is off, it is not triggered by some driver related function with the computer on. My DCP-195C does some action - it sounds like a cleaning action - in the evening hours now and then if I didn't use it for a while, but that's in rare instances

I bought my Pro-100 in July 1914, it's never been turned off since that day, it's still on its first printhead and, as far as I know, it never does anything between print jobs.

I congratulate you on being the happy owner of a very reliable printer, long may that continue.. :hugs
