icc profile for mg8250 and Image Specialist inks

Hello,

I just switched to refilled carts for my mg8250 printer. The inks are IS brand, from a kit purchased from octoink.
I am quite pleased with the results on plain paper, but I prefer the color tones of OEM inks for printing photos. Results with IS are a little bit too saturated and lack realism.
Do you know where I can get an icc profile for my ink set and glossy photo paper ?

Could you not adjust the one youre using to your own preferences and save that?

Profiles are made for one paper type only so youll need to make one for each of the papers
you intend to use to get it to the correct colour balance that suits you needs..

Do you mean by playing with the sliders in the driver settings ?

Frankly, I did not try.
I do not know of any tool for altering an icc profile content.

The use of the Colour sliders is more for the printing graphics than photos.

They can accuracy provide you with a particular colour you want to print but can have strange consequences
on the output of coloured photos, because they dont work the way most guys think they do.

The best place to use and apply the different profiles is in your photo editing software,
you can then add in the different paper types in print preferences to get the desired output,
you will however have to make several or tens of test prints before you are satisfied you got the right one.

Try printing your test photo small say 7 cm x 7 cm on a large photo sheet and move your image to a new position
for the next print and when the sheet is full of all your test prints youll be able to see if you are going in the right direction..

So to make sure I understood : I need to try the different profiles supplied by Canon for different paper types (MP2, GL2/SG2, ....), hopefully I will find one which gives better results. Is that what you meant ?

I agree - if you can find someone reliable to generate the profile for you. See this thread.

That's why some of us have invested in our own printer profiling devices. Some people have reported success using Profile Prism with success, but using a scanner to measure the color of the target is not as good as using a spectrophotometer.

When youre finished editing your photo and go to print, just change the Color handling box:-
To Photoshop Manages Color and then a ton of profiles are available to choose from,
In the printer Profile Box:-

But dont forget to disable colour management in the printer preferences also.

Yes, that's how I work. I select 'print with preview' from the file menu (I have photoshop CS2) and then there are the following icc profiles. I only use Canon paper, in parenthesis after the profile name the photopaper I use the profile for):

- Canon MG6100 series Fine Art Photo Rag 2 (never used it, don't know what this one's for)
- Canon MG6100 series GL2/SG2 (Photo paper Plus Glossy II PP-201 and Photo Paper Plus Semi-gloss SG-201)
- Canon MG6100 series GL3/SG3 (Glossy Photo paper GP-501)
- Canon MG6100 series MP2 (never used it, think it's for matte paper MP-101)
- Canon MG6100 series Other Fine Art Paper 2 (never used it, don't know what this one's for)
- Canon MG6100 series PT1 (never used it. Think PT is Platinum Pro, pr101. Not sure why there's a PT2 and PT3. Higher numbers are lower quality with Canon profiles).
- Canon MG6100 series PT2
- Canon MG6100 series PT3

So, I use the right profile with the right paper (I think). I use Octinkjet ink and to my judgement the photo's are a little greenish and I would like to tweak it a little.

From you earlier message #4 I understood that it might be possible to change the profiles that are already in the list? Maybe I misunderstood?
