Hi,

I am looking for some help.

I have a HP F2280 printer at home.
A few days ago I received a pop up to update my printersofteware. Of course I accepted the update because if I didn't this could effect the quality of prints etc etc.
Now my printer is not working anymore. Yesterday I put in some new cartridge ( refilled ) and after 5 pages the cartridge blocks.
I tried everything but it is not working anymore.
A friend of my uses the same cartridges so I took his carts ( who were working fine ) in his printer and I put them in my printer. Same story..... 5 pages and then block. This were also refill cartridges....So I think there must be something in my printer.
Does anybody know how to solve this?
I think it has to with the update of the software. It looks like HP controls the printer now and that they put a message in this software not to accept refill carts anymore.
If this is the case then this is a terrible situation because then I am forced to buy HP carts always.....I always used refill carts and they worked fine.
What can I do? Remove the software? Or is using original carts the only solution.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hi,

I have the same problem with my HP printer. I'm using a re-used cartridge brand, but after some kind of update (which my wife has installed), my printer only printed a couple of pages, which I did not count). Now the printer refuses printing.

At first I thought it was my problem, but after reading this forum item I think there is somthing else going on.

Does anyone have an idea how to solve this. I would prefer to use the alternative cartridges.

Regards,

Maarten

This is technically illegal (for HP to do this) if I'm reading this right but obviously you want to return your printer to one that works properly...

I'd see if you can do a system restore (if you're using XP - not sure about Vista, etc..) and get your computers drivers/software back to where it was before the update.

Alternatively if you still have a copy of the old software/drivers you could try getting the driver cleaner from kyocera to clean out the HP drivers and then reinstall the old ones before turning off software updates to avoid a repeat of the problem.

HP do this to stop people using compatible ink cartridges, I have this problem with my customers all the time. This is a common problem. I tell people to remove the software, delete the printer, delete the directory on the hard drive where the software is installed and re install the software. IMPORTANT. do not chose the default settings, chose advanced setup and un-tick the box where it says automatically check for updates, do not install HP Update! this is the problem. Hope that helps.
