How to remove PRO-1 printhead ?

Hello!

Thank you so much for the contributions everyone has made here. I have a Canon Pro 1 which has been very good to me but now needs a new print head. Nozzle checks started showing 50% horizontal lines missing on a couple of colours and then I got a B200 error.

I have the new print head but can't find any details about how to change it.

Would anyone be able to help with some guidelines for replacing the print head?

@juliaj, sorry to hear about your current issues, can you post your last nozzle check because it would help us to understand your problem, and the B200 error will be a bit of a problem going forwards.

Where did you source the new print head from ?, can you post a link to the specific site, because not all these print heads are new which will cause huge issues when installed..

And photos attached of box of new print head (I haven't opened of course) & nozzle check from before the B200 error. (There is something else printed on the back of the nozzle check which shows through a bit).

UPDATE: The printer has been off for a week while I've been waiting for the new print head to arrive. I just turned it on and the B200 error seems to have cleared itself. I was able to print another nozzle check to check it actually prints which it does. No change to the nozzle results... still as per below.

Thank you for all the extra information, I was just about to ask was there a hologram on the box lid when I noticed you included that Photo too, great..

Now that your printer has cleared its own error, whatever you do don’t do any more printing on it, because the Feckin error is likely to reappear again.. And that’s not good.

OK I’ll PM you with the instruction on how to replace the print head, so make sure before you start you have enough ink in the 12 carts to complete the installation, you’ll need more that 35% in each cart..

Just follow the instruction exactly.. Good luck..

Hello all!

I stumbled onto this thread searching for information on removing a clog in my Pro-1 head. It's in the photo magenta head.

I'm a long time pro photo and video guy. I use the printer to do a few art prints at least every month, and runs of a dozen or so at least every quarter. So not a heavy, or daily user.

I noticed a green or cyan cast in my prints a month ago. I thought it was a software issue with Adobe, or Apple. I printed a check print and all showed up without bands, or lines. Today I realized I missed that the photo magenta patch should have been much darker - it was very light, but a solid color. I did an alignment check, and the photo magenta patch was blank, and the utility said "a head was clogged - clean it."

I did all but the system clean. I'll need to get a couple cartridges to do that. The clean, and deep clean did not solve the problem.

I like this printer a lot. It's made beautiful prints for me. I need to buy @ 100.00 USD of ink cartridges to do the system clean. Anyone care to share their odds of this clearing the problem? Reading the thread I see that you can replace the head, assuming you can find one. I'm pretty handy with electronics, and mechanicals so on the surface it doesn't scare me.

So here's the question - am I best advised to buy the ink, and possibly the replacement head, or save the cash and put it on the new Prograf 300? At least it's a pigment printer, and a matching size to the Pro-1.

Lot of great knowledge in the thread - but some advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

It sounds like you’ve backed yourself into a corner, and now find you can’t find an easy way out, and here’s the bad news, there’re most likely isn’t an easy way out or answer to your problems.

When you can see an issue with your photos, (Missing colours) its advisable to stop all test printing from this point until you can resolve the issue, and continuing to print only gets you into that corner much further.

You have done all you can do to resolve the colour imbalance with the cleaning cycles, and a system clean won’t help in any way, the problem is most likely some burned out nozzles caused by an electrical problems in the head and they can’t be fixed.

This is all surmising to the extent of your problem, because until we can see your last nozzle check print we don’t know how extensive the issues are.

Your printer is down and no amount of hurrying with get it working quickly, so take this time to appraise your situation as to what you want to do next, i.e. fix your beautiful printer or invest the money in a new one, you’re looking at the price of a new head and inks against a Pro 300..

Come back with a nozzle print and we can take it from there for you, O’ the printer can still do nozzle checks safely without cause any further damage..
P.S. Your printer is very fixable..

Nozzle check Pattern #3 is missing. Please post all three patterns together. You may be able to edit your post and include it.

Thanks for taking the time to answer so promptly! Can't say I had as much luck with Canon CPS when I brought this up with them. Not complaining, but this was a first for a non-fix from their normally excellent support.
