Testing for pigment vs dye black ink on paper is more complicated than it used to be. Nowadays, many plain papers come with ColorLok which means that dye inks will no longer wash off like they used to. If you use plain paper for this test, make sure it doesn't have ColorLok.
If you use Glossy Photo Paper for the test, make sure it is one that is not designed for pigment ink such as those made by Epson for their DURABrite pigment inks. And after the two inks dry you don't have to wash the paper, just run your finger or a piece of tissue paper across the ink spots. The dye ink will not rub off but the pigment ink will wipe right off.
