Hey guys,

Lets add to the mystery... this morning I decided to test printing out full pages of red text and blue text on standard mode using the same paper & the same text that gave me problem with black distortion... guess what, red & blue no problem, see images.

So the problem is still black text on standard mode on plain paper, everything else is fine.

I suppose this eliminate roller & timing strip?

My new printer just arrived, transferring the CIS over as I need to print 5-6000 pages this weekend, but it will be interesting to solve this mystery... I am really tempted to swap printheads to test but after the caution given here, I don't want to tempt fate...

Lol I got a friend who sells large format printers & he said move on, you got your money's worth already. But it's only 14 months old & technically under 3 years warranty, unfortunately, I drilled a hole in the cover for CIS...

While it is preferable to tie all issues to single cause, it still may be more than one cause.

The symmetric alternate height blocks of Black in your purge image point to an electrical malfunction of the print head, logic assay board or both. Whether rollers or timing strips contribute to any of these issues becomes a secondary issue of much lesser importance.

Take your friend's advice and move on with the new printer and print head. You can keep the old ones for an emergency , AKA last resort.

Agreed & already installed new one, but I was a technical support guy in a previous life, like 20 yrs ago and it's an unhealthy obsession to figure things out, lol.

Comparatively, this is a great little workhorse, I used to buy multiple IP3000 & wear them out before their 1 yr warranty period.

Good to hear you are back in business. Let us know how things work out with the new printer.

IMO, the offsets are being generated during bi-directional printing, and not from paper feed issues. Higher quality paper selections typically force uni-directional printing.

That points right back to the timing strip. Just one drop of ink in the wrong place will be counted (or obscure) as an encoder line, and "confuse" print head positioning.

Use Origional Windex on Cue-tips and wipe the full length.

I am interested to see if cleaning the timing strip as turbguy recommends will resolve the alternate height symmetric black blocks on your purge print. It should take a short few minutes. Please try it and post results.
