Hi all,

Somewhat "noobie" here to the forum, but had a lot of previous technical experience and photo experience. Used to work as a pro photographer with B&W and color, and also "geek" working with networks and various computer systems... and willingly "bow" to experts who know better. ;)

I recently picked up a Canon i9900 printer, and it prints great - with one exception. I get great looking prints, and the results I've had with hooking up the Canon OEM inks with various papers in the profiles have all been fantastic.

HOWEVER (there is always a "but", isn't there?) - When I go to print A3+ size (13"x19") - I get everything but a full print size. I often end up with an 8.5x11 inch print on a piece of 13x19 paper, or maybe a 11x17 print if I really work at the paper size and profile for awhile. BUT - I have yet to make a 13x19 full size print (with or without boarders.) And this is driving me NUTS!

Am using the latest drivers(aomwin110ea23us), on a Windows 7 (x64 bit) machine, and it just can't seem to hold the right print paper size when I got to print to it. Previews look great, but when the print starts coming out... ... GAH!

Any suggestions/ideas/fixes?

First off, this is a good reason to get some large (18"x24") sketching paper to practice on. You will have to cut 5" off one edge to make it 13"x24". The printer can actually print to almost that size.

If you are having problems, it is probably a driver problem. Is it possible for you to try it out on an older OS that is supported on the installation disk like XP just to make sure that every thing else (your application and they way you are printing) is the same and that it prints correctly? If you determine that it prints correctly under the older OS but not under the newer one, then you need to complain to Canon and wait for them to fix it.

Yep, did that with some plain (inexpensive) paper (with "photo" settings in the profile) - got the same results.

(nods) Will try with an XP (32 bit) machine I have, but hadn't quite gotten to that point yet - but was going to if nothing here had turned up a "Oh you just need to do X, Y and Z" with the driver or profiles. Will report results on that in a day or so... got to recover from this weekend first.

Thanks ghwellsjr!

Camstone,

I have an i9900 installed on an XP(32) server, connected to Vista(32) and Win7(64) computers. When I first added the Win7 computer, it wouldn't connect to the i9900 (the Vista machine didn't have a problem), and I had to upgrade the XP driver to the i9900xp175ausZ driver. The Win 7 computer could then find and connect to the i9900. It would print up to 8x10 photos OK, but (like in your situation) it would downsize my 12x18 prints.

Because I was busy at the time and don't print too many large prints, I just printed the large ones directly from the XP machine. I recently took the time to uninstall and reinstall the printer from all of the computers and to then reinstall the XP driver. For some strange reason, it now prints the large photos correctly. I have no idea what changed or if it will revert to its previous behavior at some point in the future.

One more thing of note - every time that I print I get a warning message that my Win7 driver is incompatible with the server driver (even though the Win 7 machine downloaded its driver from the XP server).

I know that this doesn't help solve your problem, other than the knowledge that there seems to be a problem with the i9900 driver on Win 7(64).

Good luck. If you find a solution, please post it.

I run a Canon pro 9500 mark II on Windows 7 64bit, Vista 64bit, Xp 32bit, and Mac 64bit with no unusual size problems.
It will depend on what program you actually use to do your printing.
Most time when you hit the print button the printer will revert back to default settings in the Control panel.
So when youre using custom sizes the best practice is to double check (twice) all your print settings before you commit the printer to print.

I print through Qimage, and have for years. The selected paper size is always displayed. My problem occurred with the correct driver settings and paper size selection.

Heyas Grand-Dad(35),

I think you and I are seeing the same types of issues, so I will give your solution a try and go back and get the canon i9900 drivers you suggested. I am guessing that there "IS" something with the Win 7(64) OS and drivers that is causing the (incompatibility) problem, because even when using Canon's own "EasyPhoto-Print EX" software, I still end up with it seeming to go back to "default" print size settings, or if I am lucky - get a 11x17 size, but not a full 13x19 print. I've tried other programs and settings, and they all seem to be the same issues on Win 7. Have yet to try this on a Win XP machine, but will be looking at that as well soon.

Trust me, I check three times... and it still goes back to what seems to be a "default" setting on the i9900 driver. So I am thinking this is an OS/Driver issue. Will be testing and reporting on results soon...

Well, tried the i9900xp175ausZ driver, but I have an AMD 64 Turion processor, so that driver won't work (that driver only works with Intel 32 bit drivers on XP)... so on to try other drivers and solutions. Looks like I can possibly set the print driver such so I can do a 11x17 quality and "fit" (scale up) the resulting image to 13x19...

[UPDATED]

Well, after much fiddling - and with thanks to those with suggestions from above - I did get my i9900 to print a full bleed/boarder less 13x19" A3+ high resolution photo. Here is what I have found out:

Win7/64bit OS+Canon i9900 1.10 drivers = Mis-sized prints, largest is a 11x17. Not exactly what I had in mind, but it's an option when I see 11x14 or 11x17 inkjet paper being sold on sale. Boarderless prints looked to be of very good quality otherwise.

Win 7(64) + AMD 64 Dual Processor + i9900xp175ausZ driver = Will not install correctly, even with additional prodding. Driver install software "balked" because it was not an "Intel" processor. Someone at Canon hopefully will recompile this driver someday. I dropped them a note, but since this is largely a discontinued printer - I doubt I'll get any response back from them except "Buy a new printer!".

Software used to make prints (Easy Photo, Powerpoint, PaintShop Pro x11, PhotoShop, etc) - did not seem to matter. This really appears to be a Canon driver-OS compatibility issue.

Windows XP Pro(32) + i9900xp175ausZ driver = Worked like a charm. Great quality prints, full bleed/boarderless 13x19" with great color and quality, edge to edge. Even when made through a wireless print server on my home network. I can live with this solution for now, although some day I may want to upgrade the printer... but for now... I can live with this. Might try to load a different driver to see what happens with Win7(64) - or load a dual boot on my HP tablet/laptop - but for now, am good with this. I don't print A3+ all that often, but when I do - this is a good solution until they update the driver for the Canon i9900 or I buy another printer.

Thanks again everyone... cheers!
