There is nothing to report yet after an exposure time of 2 weeks so far , slight fading becomes visible but numbers measured are not so distinct yet between patches with and w/o GO , a clear trend will need some more sun etc to become really visible.

The impact of a gloss opt. overprint as a fade protection for a dye ink print is becoming visible after 3 weeks of exposure

That's printed with the Fujifilm DL inks onto the Netbit/PE paper (glossy) with a L800 (ignore the missing nozzles - I saw them only after printing..) The protection effect is visible now. I'm doing the GO overprint with a WF-2010W via the black channel with a separate cartridge for the GO.

I'm doing the same test with the Tecco PM230 - photo matte - a GO overprint leaves the matte finish, no gloss at all, the protection effect is less but becoming visible now as well, and measurable. I probably would need multiple layers.
I'm running a separate sheet printed pigment inks, the GO improves the overall visual impression , better gloss, darker blacks , but no signs of fading yet - with or w/o GO.

another week is gone, the 4th week is over, a GO overprint on a dye print improves the fading performance which is becoming better visible now and measurable, I'm running a test with the Fujifilm DL inks on Netbit paper, on a semiglossy paper , on a matte paper and pigment inks as well on that semiglossy paper, the trend with the DL inks is clear - it's better with GO , no change yet on the pigment inks, and delta numbers are pretty small yet, the better inks are in this test, so I can't say yet the improvement is 2x or 4x which will take more weeks, I guess even months with the pigment inks.

it's now 6 weeks that various patches are out in the sun, with and w/o a GO overprint, the differences are now becoming visible

- a Netbit glooss PE paper with the Fujifilm DL inks - the patches with the GO overprint have
increased their lightness by about half compared to the patches w/o the GO overprint

- a silk/semiglossy PE paper with the DL inks shows about the same result

- photo matt - Tecco PM230 - the GO overprint keeps the matte surface still matte - no change,
the lightness increase of the GO patches is about 70% of those w/o the GO, the effect is clearly
visible but not as strong as on the glossy paper

- a silk roll paper with pigment inks does not show any relevant changes and differences yet
between the patches with and w/o GO, this one needs quite some more exposure to find any
trend

As I read this, it seems that the GO over print is the thing causing the increase in lightness (fading?) - or do I misunderstand?

The GO overprint on dye ink prints is slowing down the fading of the sun/UV/ozone environment, by about half on a glossy paper, it takes about twice the time until the same lightness shift is reached w/o GO.

another 2 weeks are gone, and I can confirm the trend that a GO overprint on dye inks improves the fading performance by a factor of about 2, I tested this now for 8 weeks on a Netbit glossy and a Farbenwerk semiglossy with the Fujifilm DL dye inks. The effect is smaller - about a 1.5 improvement on a Tecco photo matte paper. Another test is running with pigment inks, but this test does not show any trend yet, the currently measurable changes are still within scanner and reading accuracy. I'll just continue the test with the pigment inks for the next weeks.

I'm still running a test with pigment inks whether a GO overprint makes a difference in fading performance. It is now becoming measurable after 12 weeks that it does indeed , that the GO overprint is slowing down the fading of the pigment ink sample. The differences are small and measurable but not really visible yet but the trend is clear - the GO overprint has an improvement effect.

I'm now on week 14 with this test whether a GO overprint would further improve the fading of pigment inks - yes - it does - the numbers are now getting out of the noise and indicate a clear trend
the CMYK pigment ink colors all together fade just by 2 with a GO overprint, and by 10 w/o GO, last week's numbers were 2 and 8 w/o GO, it's going slow in the moist autumn weather.
(As described earlier I'm reading the luminance changes - (8 bit range between 0 to 255) via the histogram function in Paintshop Pro off the exposed and scanned print).
You barely would recognize such changes yet at this time - even in direct comparison to a dark ref copy. So I'll continue with this test until I forget the patch prints outside.......
