Hi everyone!

Just need to know something. Can we trust these local stores which offer to fill up empty ink cartridges with local ink within few minutes? Has anyone used those refilled ink cartridges?

Hi Dear Austin, I really liked your question.

I think ,there are several local ink manufacturers in the United States. These companies have proper licenses to manufacture and sell ink. It is just that these companies do not spend money on marketing. So, we don’t know them. To answer your question, yes! You can trust those third party ink sellers. Every ink manufacturer follows certain standards. So, print few copies with that ink, and see the difference yourself!

Austin - Stores like Walgreens refill cartridges in our area while you wait. The ink source is unknown, but it most certainly is not "local". Just for interest sake I've asked about the price per cartridge to have them refill. Somewhat cheaper than the original OEM price, but nowhere as cheap as refilling yourself. In addition, if you use ink to refill your cartridges yourself that has been used extensively by participants on this forum you will have more assurance that the refill inks will come close to OEM color match and are not harmful to your printer.

As far as I know, there are very few ink manufacturers in the US. I understand that much of the refill ink that is available on the internet is made in China. Who knows where local commercial refillers source their ink! The person who is doing the commercial refilling at a store will be an employee who has no idea about the source of the ink.

I have been told that most Large USA based Ink Refilling business, ( Walk in type ) use OCP which is the reason Rjettek even exist in the USA.
Believe me, they are not here just to serve PRO 3800s and higher or us refillers.
The bulk of their business goes to refilling companies servicing tri color carts like Lexmark and other similar easy to refill types. They sell those dye inks by the 55 gallon drum.
Just try taking your empty Epson R3000 carts to those refillers and see what they tell you.

If you call asking for EPSON K3 OCP it is usually a special order from Germany which will be shipped by ship along with their quarterly container full of inks.

The key sentence here is "...within few minutes".

My opinion is NO.We can't trust them. If you want a refill within few minutes, just with a syringe and few ml of ink, better do it at home. When i go to a refill shop, i expect them to clean my cartridge from dried ink inside, to cetrifuge it and check the overall quallity (and the wear it might have). And i pay for that. Not just few ml through a syringe at "2 minutes refill!"

So, to sum up. YES, you can trust a refiller that checks everything, cleans what needs cleaning, and gives your cartridge back good as new (or tells you that the cartridge can't work properly any more), but NO, you can't trust a refiller that just fills up 5 ml of ink and gives you back your cartridge in a matter of minutes.

I should have added to my previous post that The Walgreen store clerk who does the refills showed me a price list for various carts. Notably absent were the Canon carts that I use.

My experience with cartridge refiller stores are good. Usually they use grade A quality ink. The 'ink station' in my neighborhood uses Inktec, another one OCP. With the filling machines they use there is no need to drill in the cartridge.

For best results have OEM cartridges refilled, and have them refilled immediately after being empty, so that the sponge doesn't dry out.

But... most stores don't refill a certain generation Epson cartridges.

I understand that much of the refill ink that is available on the internet is made in China.

InkTec is from Korea, OCP is from Germany, Image Specialists (now STS) is from the U.S. I don't know about the others.
