thanks for your feedback, there is some background reading available by xRite about colors, measurement, representation , a definition of typically used terms in this area

http://www.xrite.com/documents/literature/en/L10-001_Understand_Color_en.pdf

http://www.xrite.com/documents/Literature/EN/L11-029_Color_Guide_EN.pdf

I would not recommend reading the ICC specification itself, that's hardcore icc stuff

http://color.org/specification/ICC1v43_2010-12.pdf

that tells you what all is happening under the hood of software dealing with icc-profiles , using them or creating them, or analyzing them like Gamutvision

Two excellent references there! Thanks for sharing.

@Roy Sletcher Are you any the wiser on your use of Gamutvision on the 3880?

Hi Emu,

Still plowing through the documentation. The basic problem is my inherent laziness. Most of my printing gets done late summer or early fall so now I am "goofing off".

I think some of my earlier problems may have been due to file corruption at my end. I have downloaded and reinstalled the software, and now at least I an getting consistent and repeatable results, so far as I can tell.

Regrettably this is a field with limited documentation from third parties, or disinterested participants, so it is slow going separating the wheat from the chaff.

I am very impressed with the versatility of the application, but the "graphics quality sucks the big one", at least compared to the Chromix versions.

Once I get a better handle on the results will report more. I have a lot of profiles I need to compare and especially need to verify the efficacy of the ColorMunki profiles I have made for some third party papers.

As for the 3880 I am blown away by the gamut. The greens and blues seem far larger than aRGB, and slightly larger in yellow and reds.

However on the high gloss papers the humble Dye based Canon Pro100 seems to hold its own.

Still reading and learning. Thanks for the inquiry.

I hope you have looked at the Gamutvision "Instructions" and "Tutorials" shown at the top of the Gamutvision Help header page?

Yes - That is where Started. I am pretty comfortable doing the simple gamut comparisons for the various input and output devices. I need to get more comfortable with the DELTA-E comparisons, which us a very useful comparative tool.

I am very impressed with the range of reports available. They will be a great asset if they work as advertised.

It takes time to absorb and assimilate all the data and get it into the correct overall picture. Lots of false starts if I am not careful.

Somewhat ironic that I have had the software on my desktop for around a year, and only now starting to work seriously with it. If I was more diligent would be 12 months ahead by now

Epson 3880. Canon Pro 9000,
So!
Which one do I purchase, there is quite a range in prices but I am still working so my options are less limited than if I was on a fixed income right now,

Andrew, I would hold on for a bit, if you are not into playing with things like Argyll, there would not be much point in buying either.

Please expand your thoughts as I was not expecting that as a response as I am pretty sure not everyone that uses Gamutvision etc. use an Argylle type product?
