I know exactly what I think about that ink you posted; don’t touch it with a barge pole, its rubbish.

I have never heard of the Qräx ink, but I agree with The Hat that universal no-name inks should be avoided. Only a quality brand name refill ink made specifically for the cartridges in your printer should be used. If you want bulk inks instead of a refill kit, here is one more link to Octopus-office.de. OCP is one of the recommended brands.

Another recommended brand of refill ink is Image Specialists, that is sold in the EU by Octoinkjet UK. Here is a starter kit for your MP620. You can also buy bulk inks and accessories like also a resetter for the older PGI-5/CLI-8 cartridges. In my opinion the PGI-520/CLI-521 cartridges are best refilled using the topfill method, so you will also need some low profile plugs and aluminium tape.

If the suspect ribbon cable is for a MP520 then the parts number is probably QK1-3810-000, the description in the parts catalog is FFC, Panel, which I think could mean Flat Foil Cable, Panel. If the cable is for the MP620 I cannot help with a parts number as I don't have the parts catalog for the MP620.

Does the cable look damaged? The problems with the panel could also be a defect in the panel itself or in the logic board. If you have a multimeter with continuity test function you might be able to test the cable if you attach fine needles to the test pins.

The Canon service tools only work with Windows, but the versions 3200 and 3400 work with all Windows versions from XP and on, both 32 and 64 bit versions of the OS, so could you possibly borrow a Windows laptop to run the service tool?

Yes PeterBJ,
I'm gonna borrow a PC to try out.
Very clever idea with a multimeter.
The cable look damaged at some parts and it's for a MP520.
By touching the ribbon it was jumping from black to white.
Best regards and many thanks for the advises.
You wise man:bow

To use the borrowed PC to run the service tool you will need to install the printer on the PC first. If the PC is running a Windows version newer than XP, a plug and play install can be used. Just connect the printer to the PC via USB and turn the printer on. Windows Update then finds the driver and installs it. You need an internet connection for this install to work. Connecting a borrowed XP computer to the web might not be a good idea.

Maybe the problem with the cable is caused by a bad contact? You could then try to clean the contact surfaces on the cable with a Q-tip moistened with an electronics contact cleaner. I think the connectors on the logic board and the panel unit could be cleaned with a folded piece of plain paper cut to size and moistened with the contact cleaner.

If the cable is broken, I think it is impossible to repair, but here is a French supplier. I wonder if "Quantité limitée" = "Limited Quantity" means that a few cables are still in stock?

In Belgium it is not allowed to retrieve objects from the recycling area (even not from the street), once deposed is public property.

You must scan second-hand websites, had to pay 10 EUR for a MX7600 (with empty OEM cartridges but in working condition).
Soon I will have to start a shop :(.

No, the PGI-x20/CLI-x21 generation of printers need one of the the service tools for service mode operations. Your procedure works with the older BCI-3e/BCI-6 and PGI-5/CLI-8 generations of printers.

I tried your procedure on a Canon MP540 that is similar to the MP620. It uses the same print head and cartridges, but has fewer features. After having entered service mode the printer doesn't react to pressing the stop/resume button and as expected, pressing the on/of button turns off the printer.

Sorry for misinformation and thanks for explanations.
Sadly, I have to admit, but I was confident that these printers (ink type X20/X21) supports both CST input and standalone service mode operations. I was giving those instructions in last 1-2 years and no one was complaining - that's very bad.
