my 10 year old MP830 caught the dreaded "The type of print head is incorrect. Install the correct print head" error yesterday

tried reseating, tried power cycling, did not fix

pulled the ink carts and put the print head back in, still same error message.

tossed the print head and used my last print head.

sent my daughter an email since her MP830 is still working about my dead MP830 dead print head.

she said she caught that error a few times and she just reset all ink carts, power-cycled the printer and it worked for her.

did not make sense logically, since i still got the error w the ink carts removed. but i gave it a try

and..... it worked

so give the ink carts a reset next time you catch that error, might work for you too

Do you mean reset the cartridges with a resetter? If so I think the cartridges should also be topped up, so you don't risk running out of ink even if a cartridge indicates there is still ink left. But maybe the prism will prevent this risk?

yes, i did top off the carts afterwards.

was surprised the ink cart reset resolved the "incorrect print head" error

but since new MP830 print heads are very scarce i was glad to keep this one going.

bad news, ink cart reset only worked for 2 days, then "wrong print head" error came back.

something flaky/electrical going on with this print head, time to toss it

replaced it with a spare 830 print head so i am back in business

Hi @jimbo123, don’t toss the head, keep it as a get out of jail free card, if you get another error for whatever reason, just pop this head back in again and do nozzle check, then revert back to the current head, it can save you a lot of trouble.
Thanks for the up-date..:thumbsup

Had the same problem on my trusty old MP610. Re-seated the ink heads, unplugged the power for 15 minutes, Switched back on and bingo! All good for a couple of prints then 'This type of print head is incorrrect...'
Unplugged the printer again then uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. Plugged printer back in and now working like a charm for the last month or so.
