Yes you can use all sort of ink .. like with refillable carts in a P50 (= L800 without the ciss).
Claria compatible should be no problem, the epson printhead even takes pigment, but the ciss might be the problem as the ink comes out at the bottom .. pigment can build up a deposit ..

But I am not sure about the serial numbers on the bottles...my L300 do not need these numbers to refill..

PS: Thank you for the link to wilhelm-research!
The results are indeed bad regarding fading in air/ozone.
But what I don't understand: the same ink on photo paper is fading after 1 month, on plain paper after 30 years???
And the 4 channel ink (L355) seems to be different from 6 channel ink (L800) !?

Indeed the epson bottled ink seems to be NO claria...but how are the results of other 3rd party inks? Are there any tests on wilhelm-research of 3rd party ink? Comparisons would be helpful...

Until now I am using the original bottles of ink, but I have my L300 just for two weeks, will try other inks in future.
In general you should not expect long endurance of 3rd party dye ink, claria and canon OEM (which both you can buy only in cartridges) seems to be much better (and much more expensive..) Sadly non-OEM ink is rarely tested.
Here is a comparison of different inks for epson by pharmacist:

Thank you for the links - if you know any ICC profiles for the L-300 series please post a link!
