Seems like a good start point, found some T5431 for P9600 expired on 2019.
I could get them for around 10usd each.

Just found I am wrong about the Claria Home ref 202 cartridge. It's actually pigment black + CMY dye.
But the driver behavior for chromaticity on XP245 seems like similar to the L365. Except the Dmax, the driver on XP245 limits like L655 & WF2650.
XP2101_T664s.png

Figure out why XP-240 driver Dmax so low on T664 dye inks, the matte paper media on the driver only print black by CMY channel like glossy paper. Also explained why the chromaticity is not like the XP-2101, since it's the same as glossy media.

Maybe this issue? or symptom fix since XP-2100 driver.

and these cartridges can be found in Europe beyond the expiration date pretty much discounted ; I never had problems with such expired cartridges.
I've some MegaTank to test in the next days will try on one with an expired ink, maybe a god news (refilling with all 4 original Canon ones is over 120€ in France). What do you think about ?

Those mentioned expired ink cartridges are filled with Lucia (Pro) pigment inks, most Megatank models run with CMY dye inks, and I would not recommend to swap pigment against dye inks in such models.

Trying to compare each channel ink printed by printer+driver (ICM disabled)
Paper: EPSON OEM SKU:C13S041786 102gsm Photo quality Inkjet paper (Presentation Paper Matte)
Besides L655 still can't decode, other EPSON drivers confirmed each color only utilize one dedicate Ink channel.
  1. But L800 Matte media type would be an exception, it actually use CMYK 4 channels to produce black(not on this print sample)
  2. The pigment only(DuraBrite ink) or Black pigment printer, in Matte media type case. The C & M channel seems lighter?(check TX430W , XP2101 and L655) It's almost print like LC & LM even some L655 & XP2101 actually only sale as Pigment black only.
Based on the above observations, EPSON driver might only have pigment & all Dye ink two types on matte media.
The CMYK pigment & K only pigment driver behavior seems like no difference.

That's a pretty good deal indeed.
Tried T5431 PB on the same 130gsm Inkjet cast coated paper
Printer XP-2101
Driver L365
media type: Premium Glossy Quality
t5431_l365_xp2101.png

But the Black in only black seems not so black, it lost reflection after dry out.

The measurement also seems like it's not so black as other black with CMY mixed.

L=24 is not a very good black level at all, it's the ink in combination with the coating of the paper. Please add a detail to the images - which printer did you use for the particular prints ? And which driver settings did you use ?
I see quite strong traces of the pizza wheels at the paper out patch - that is a sign that the coating swells for a short period - is it a cast coated paper or a PE/RC paper ? I remember from own tests that cast coated papers don't deliver as good a deep black level as PE/RC papers did. I got down to L=1.1 on a RC paper with the Canon PFI-105 black.

It's the L365 driver print to XP-2101 printer on Premium Photo Glossy Quality, I also check the Matte High.
The paper still the 130gsm Inkjet cast coated paper.
I would try on my RC glossy paper later.

I also check the Stylus Pro 4000 glossy paper behavior, it seems like not only full PG black channel. Other 6 ink channels
pro4000_k.png
also print something when it's black.

Quick update:
It's spot read 2.2 on RC paper compared with original cast coated paper only 1.4
