Yes, black levels on cast coated and RC papers are rather different with the same ink

Figure out why XP-240 driver Dmax so low on T664 dye inks, the matte paper media on the driver only print black by CMY channel like glossy paper. Also explained why the chromaticity is not like the XP-2101, since it's the same as glossy media.

Maybe this issue? or symptom fix since XP-2100 driver.

Hi Clarence,

I was wondering how you extracted the above data from the Epson drivers? Is your Python script available for download? I would be interested in checking my R3000 as well :)

I am going to start a INK fade test on below table.
ink_tb1.jpg

Since only PB pigment ink could works on the 180gsm Glossy paper well.
I won't check other T774, T502 AND T542 pigment black on Glossy paper.
But we still have full compare on EPSON OEM Photo Quality Inkjet paper 102gsm,
I think it's the same as "Epson Presentation Paper Matte".

It might take a month for the test.
I also ordered the Hongsam Evernew 6 colors ink in 100ml each.
Once they arrived, would start another test compare between T673, 82N (Claria Photo) on the same paper types.

You have quite a lot of different inks available, I would list the T502 under dye inks - CMY with K pigment black. I assume that the GI-73/53 is the Canon ink of the G650/620 Megatank printer; it's petty much complicating such listings when Canon and Epson use different numbers in different business regions. Epson PB is photo black, BK is matte black.

Based on my test this year and earlier I have some assumptions about the outcome already - the ranking of these inks, but there may be some surprises, and I'm ready for them. I overall tested less pigment inks overall, I was expecting a better outcome anyway (which may have been wrong) and I barely ever got complete inksets together, I got C and M from one user - brand A and light gray and black brand B from somebody else, I ordered C and black as Canon inks etc and mixed them all together (by color) at the end, my Pro7600 takes it all.

I'm going to order pretty soon the Epson 502 and 522 from the U.S. - I hope to get them in 4 - 6 weeks. The 502 is classified as a Claria ink by Epson and it'll be interesting how it performs against the Hongsam HLF inks.

Seem like EPSON changing the T502/T03Y box logo to Claria ET since 2021.
Just received T03Y CMY inks, only Y got ClariaET logo.

But I also found some seller here already have product photo as below.

BTW, received the Hongsam Evernew inks. I would start another set of the ink fade test soon.

That's apparently a secret move by Epson to change over to a Claria ink type, but I don't see that yet happening in Europe. Baseed on all recent testing, as well by Wilhelm research, these bottled inks as a 4 color ink set , the 664 or 102 inks in Europe, all perform pretty bad. The U.S. 502 ink is the only exception at this time as a 4 color Claria ink set.
I wouldn't recommend these inks 102, 664 and similar for replenishment, a 3rd party alternative would come with a similar weak performance at a lower price. And the same applies to the bottled inks for the Canon G series printers - GI-50 or GI-51 as recently tested, they have a similar weak performance as the Epson inks, and 3rd party replenishment inks should suffice at a lower price. Only the GI-53 inks for the G650 are of the Chromalife 100 type with a much better performance.

It's rainy here, but still read the chart records since I am putting the Hongsam EverNew, Claria Photo & T502 ink into the test.

I don't sure if GI-73 actually use the specific Ink channel.
Maybe I would put 6 channle GI-73 on my T50 for test next time. Than I can make sure it's single channel ink.
The K on Glossy T522 not record here since it's mix by CMY without K channel when I print it.
Next time I would test it by pure K on glossy via matte print

It's a measure compare between 2022/06/03 & 2022/06/11

Add DelteE 76 version

That's a pretty compehensive test you have started here, please make a note somewhere which time period the measuered values are for.
I agree with you that a mix of CMY dye inks and a pigment black don't go well together in such test, some Epson ink sets come with a dye black, that would need to be measured. I'm using the 106 photo black as a substitute for the pigment black, it impacts the summary deltaE value the least .
You are using the DeltaE(2000), I'm using the DeltaE(76), it does not really matter, since I'm not doing a visual assessment I don't really care about the differences how and why they are calculated differently - to bring the numbers closer to a visual perception of wider color variances. I'm looking for a ranking as the outcome of such testing for the inks and papers under test and an understanding how these react differently - turning brown - causing a blueish or reddish color cast at the end etc.
Which numbers are you recording in the 'White' column ? Are you measuring the white point of the paper ? Or the luminance change of a given patch ?
If you measure the white point separately you may catch the effect of the vanishing effect of the optical brightener in the paper , and the white point will shift from a blueish tone to a yellow tone. An OBA will fade as well like the other dye inks.
