What do you mean different genuine, you can use any ink with custom made icc profile you want. The ink quality needs to be ok in the first place.

Sorry should of been clearer, Genuine as in genuine Epson ink's , so not 114 inks, maybe some of the other variations they do 106, 109 , 113 etc..

Given a new ET-8550 replacing an ET-7750 and given I already have 4 sets of 105/106 ink (bought when I saw them for cheap), Also given I will be generating ICC profiles for all photo papers I care about should I fill the ET-8550 with 114 ink or 105/106 ink and 114 grey?

I am leaning towards 105/106 because it is cheaper and very cheap using what I already have. Trading a bit of gamut for less fade seems OK. Any other considerations? What would you do?

The ET-7750 got phased out since quite a while, and dealers have been/are clearing inventory of the 106 inks: I did some testing of the 106 vs. the 114 inks some time ago - both are very good performing inks - with its longevity and gamut . I'm doing the same using the 106 inks in my current ET-8550 and I do the needed profiles myself.

Thanks for your opinion which is not unexpected.

Swapping to all 114 and having to profile again will be very tedious and wasteful so I want to be very sure before filling with 105/106.

Do you think there is any difference between 105 BK and 114 BK?
