Empty cartridge, could the sponge be damaged from the missing ink?

I also gave the German method a trail run with a couple of my cartridges,
I cant say I was very happy with it so went back to the safe trusted top fill method.. :)

I'm curious to know what Pharmacist thinks about this since he wrote the guide for German refill method. :)

Thats not the whole story, pharmacist did post two threads on this refilling method
but he never claimed to be the originator of the method.

Here are his two posts which are two years apart the second one being an update.

It was Defcon2K who made the first video and I think he gave it its name.

The German method works very successful for most guys but not for all,
because I started with the top fill method originally and it worked great for me,
I just didnt want or see a need to change I guess no other reason..

I was reading a bit of information about the top-fill method, I have some doubts how to close the hole used to insert the needle inside the cartridge.
That's because I don't know where to find the silicon plugs at a reasonable price; what do you use to close the hole? what I can use as valid alternative?

Other 2 questions.

Is the ink subjected to an expiration? It's a good idea to buy example a bottle of 500ml of black ink and use it for 2-3 years?

I would like to use the top-fill method directly with the bottle ink without the use of the syringe (that I think is a waste of ink every time), the bottle is provided with just a plug, can I add in some way a needle to the bottle? could be a good idea? what do you think? Are there some cons?

Thanks

The silicone plugs can be gotten from the site below as well as bottles with needles on top
(SquEasy Bottles), they are the ones I use in fact.

Regarding the expiree date of inks if you havent opened the bottle or poured any ink back into it then
if will last quite some considerable time, some of my ink are ancient 4 years plus and no problems.

I use these silicone plugs (Pictured) supplied by Octoinkjet on one set of cartridges
and on the rest I seal the refill hole with just a drop of hot wax..:)

Let's do an example that could be my case.

I have a bottle of 250ml of black ink.
Every 2 weeks I open the bottle to refill the syringe then I close the bottle again.

In this kind of situation the ink inside the bottle how much can "survive" ?

Thanks

Your 250 ml bottle of ink, refilling every two weeks will last approx 12 months,
So there's no need to worry the ink inside will be as freah as the day you bought it.. :)

I have some 250 ml bottles of IS dye ink, that I bought and started using about a year ago, and nothing is wrong with the inks, I guess the shelf life is two years.

I saw that with the top fill method the people usually clean the cartridges putting them directly under a jet of water letting the water enter inside from the top hole.
So I was thinking about the cartridge chip, do you remove the chip before or? I dunno if it's a good idea to keep the chip because probably the water will wet it.

How you proceed?
