Concerning the reset utility, when I purchased by printer potty (Epson Artisan 800) several years ago, I was supplied a reset utility that did not require a "key", and works over and over again (I've used it three times). But you are right, Octoinkjet seems to have changed to specific # of use keys. Wonder why?

Older Epson printers can be reset with a freeware program that needs no key, the SSC utility. For newer printers another program is needed, the WIC utility or something like that. This program is free to download, but you need to buy a key to reset the printer.

Just to explain why the move towards the (puts coal scuttle on head) Dark Side (TM)

1. I was spending around 80% of my time supporting operating system configuration issues, anti-virus utility blocking, user knowledge (or lack thereof) and very little on actually getting the printers working/reset. Throw in the fact that we weren't selling any reset utilities it was a huge cost with no way to recover that cost.

2. The lack of compatibility with Windows 8, MacOS and Linux on AdjProgs.
(whereas WICReset added MacOS support a couple of years ago and now supports some Linux distros too so the income from keys has been rolled back in)

3. User expectations (especially on eBay/Amazon) where there's a propensity to ignore the description, ignore the specific compatibility information, just click buy and then kick off a merry stink when all that ignored information turns out to have been relevant to the end-user. The fact that the end-user may have assumed the washing machine would also clean their dog/house/kids/car seems to have been lost in the world of online marketplaces where buyer is rarely considered at fault, and the seller is responsible for everything...


On the up side I have still left all the information about how to use the AdjProg utilities and updated, as/when I can but really things just moved too fast and cutting the variables down to "just get it done" made more sense.


As for the key cost... it's possible to buy them in bulk if you're really hammering the printer or look around for a source of the AdjProg if one can be found.

No it doesn’t, on the contrary and your long winded reply confused me even more so, maybe you could have another go at it, this time please make it simple for the end user to understand without the pop-ups.

Well, I maintain an XP box just to reset the Artisan 800. Probably will work on my Epson workforce 1100 too...

Good plan... I've PM'd you privately (or will in a second) but there's some other stuff that we had to consider that made the change necessary.

On the up side it has meant that the support side of things dropped enough that we were able to start bringing in new printers to document for all manner of things like waste kit fitting, printhead cleaning, etc... so there was a net benefit.

My sanity in dealing with Windows Vista, Norton AV users was seriously on the brink though...

You can retire the Windows XP machine if you so wanted.

Im assuming the XP machine is needed to run some utility/app to reset waste ink counters, which will not work on Vista or higher???

Just go ahead and create A Bart PE boot CD which is based upon windows XP, you can then either run the reset utility from an external device (like a USB pen) or if you wanted to get flashy (something @websnail l could perhaps do if he wished as part of the reset purchase) you can intergrate applications into the Bart PE disk and run them once booted up.

If anyone is interested in how this is done, ill go into things in greater detail, i may even if someone wants to provide all the different reset utilities create a self contained boot disk for them see all you will have to do once booted is enter any serial number/key and then happily reset your printer. The only tricky thing there is all the different printer drivers will also likely be needed if people want a one for every printer solution created.

i use a Virtual machine with usb loop trough and its works fine with XP x64 and x32 bit versions
