I have some confusion.


If it doesn't detect the Colormunki for registration does the device still work and make profiles?

v1.5.0 is actually v1.1.2 ? Also the supported OS X are [10.12 / 10.13 / 10.14] and I am running
[10.10.5]. Here is a screen capture from the download site.

My version is v1.1.0 and is not available for download. The release notes say supported
OSX is [10.11 / 10.12 / 10.13] , but it works on [10.10.5]

I suppose I should count my blessings and leave well enough alone and not upgrade as more things may get broken.

I downloaded this version on PC and it shows 1.5 when installed.
It works flawlessly, no difference in the profiles with previous versions.
Only it doesn't detect the old Colormunki device for registration.
IMO this is not needed and you can switch off check new versions and registration on startup.

Out of curiosity, I opened the program now and it displays the usual message :

“ a new version is available. You have v1.5.0.11403 -current version is 1.5.0.11515 - Do you want to update.?. “. etc ..

Funny thing is that I don’t recall upgrading from 1.1.2 to 1.5.0.
I have too the old Color Munki and no problems. The device is detected and the program works OK.
Needless to say that I’m not going to update, just in case. Anyway, do you know if there’s any difference between v1.5.0.11403 and v1.5.0.11525 ?

Incidentally, If you intend to calibrate a modern monitor with LED back lighted panel, you better use another device. Xrite hasn’t updated the hardware for ages and those sensors aren’t prepared to deal with the spectrum emitted by modern LEDS.
If your monitor is rather old and still uses CCFL then the Color Munki/I1Studio it’s OK. So it is for calibrating printers, but beware of papers heavily coated with optical brighteners, because UV reflected light can fool the sensors of the venerable Color Munki.

Then why use it?

Because I only can know this WHEN I have used it .
The software has been much enhanced since the original Colormunki, what I should have missed by fear of upgrades.
And I can always fall back to a previous version.

I checked today the whole chain:
- make a photo of the Colorchecker Classic card
- convert raw to dng with Adobe DNG Converter, make camera profile with Colorchecker software
- import photo in LR using a preset with this profile and lens corrections
- calibrate the monitor with Colormunki and i1Studio software
- print the photo on PRO9500 II USING a profile made with the same
- verify Colorchecker card with screen and print result

Given the low cost (Aldi paper, Precision colors - aka STS - inks) - and the not ideal photo under my also low-cost Truelight lamp - I find the result satisfactory.
The blues are the most off IMO.

The photo of a photo is very nice! Good job with your profile.

Because I only can know this WHEN I have used it .

It always comes back to "what came first, the chicken or the egg" question.
