caught the dreaded 6A00 error code the other day on my MP830, looking for suggestions

some background. refilled/reset carts as done in the past. popped them in closed the cover and immediately got the 6A00 code. poked around a bit online, could be any number of things.

tried the following:
- looked for any paper jam, etc, nothing found
- windex test on top of 2 purge pads - worked
- tried sliding the print head back and forth - still NG
- tried sliding the white wiper blade mechanism that moves on top of the purge pads back and forth - still NG
- looks like the wiper blade mechanism gets stuck

have not disassembled the printer just reached inside to test the above.

the other weird thing is that when i turn it off using the button on top, it does not stay off, it tries to turn itself back on and then give the 6A00 code. also does not try to slide the print head back over the purge pads. note that it gave me the 6A00 code when the print head and carts were both in and out, so i have removed them still gives the 6A00 code.

any ideas ??

J

oh i moved the print head and carts to a spare MP830. so my 4 original CLI8 carts, 30 months old, refilled 15 times each, have outlived my orig MP830 printer(22,000 pages printed, pads at 80%) and are still going strong

I wouldn't try to force the wiper blade mechanism. Just use cotton swabs soaked in Windex to clean the blades and all around them. You can squirt Windex all over the place to try to get it clean. But I don't think this has anything to do with your error code. I don't know what it means or how to get rid of it.

I also would not leave a print head out of the printer for more than a few minutes, that's a quick way to clog the nozzles with dried ink. It's also not a good idea to leave the cartridges out of the print head for very long.

I had a blocked ip4000 months ago.

The white wiper part was in front and had to be pushed back.
Then the purging pads sprang back in its normal position.

I don't know if the error here (and the cure) is the same.
Possibly the wiper part or the purging pad has to be moved in other directions...
..other users reported they pushed the wiper part down to a click..

here you see pictures of blocked and normal positions (scroll down and browse forward)
