This is only true for printers of the PGI-5/CLI-8 and BCI-3e/6 and may be older cartridge generations of Canon printers. For these printers the procedure for entering service mode and the push button codes for service mode operations was found in the service manuals, which were not always error free.
When the PGI-x20/CLI-x21 cartridge generation was introduced, push button codes could no longer be used for service mode operations, instead a special software service tool was needed.
I'm always behind the times..............
But IIRC, most of the models mentioned being of interest are old school.
