Canon Pro 200 to be used with OEM inks from Canon G570 and Epson L18050

All aftermarket dye inks for Canon Pro 200 are too bad regarding longevity, so I intend to use OEM inks from Canon G570 and Epson L18050 as follows: Black, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow from Canon G570 will be used for Canon Pro 200, Grey from Canon G570 will be used for Grey and Light Grey of Canon Pro 200 as there is no OEM Light Grey ink tank elsewhere; Light Cyan and Light Magenta from Epson L18050 will be used for Photo Cyan and Photo Magenta of Canon Pro 200. Please give your opinion about this.

The Epson ink is likely to not work longterm if at all as the ink is formulated for the "heat-free" piezo printing rather than the thermal printheads the canon is using.

Epson inks won't even work short term in Canon printheads , I tried that on a IP4000 and some other models. It works the other way around - Canon dye inks in Epson printers.

Second on this. As great as Epson ink can be, it's essentially designed without heat in mind since PrecisionCore print heads are cold-firing and don't need robust cooling. Canon and any other OEM that doesn't license Epson's PrecisionCore (cold-firing piezo nozzle) tech* uses thermal print heads and care needs to be taken in order to stop them overheating. Running them hot or dry can kill them nearly instantly. Even if they don't die short-term, long-term they can suffer shortened lifespan and probably degraded performance as overheating is the enemy of electronic components.

Canon inks are 'specifically designed to act as the coolant' in order to mitigate overheating. (To what degree that is marketing vs reality is debatable, however I have personally killed some FINE print heads using cheap ink and I presume that's largely due to the thermal properties -- A $400+ print head would be a lot worse for this to happen to.)

Also you have to deal with profiling since the inks, machine and papers are no longer within the preset profiles.

*I.e. Fujifilm drylab printers

i would use the Canon Gi-53 inks in the pro 200. You can dilute the light inks with nozzle cleaner from octopus

Interesting you suggest diluting them. What ratios?

I would try 30 parts of ink and 70 parts of nozzle cleaner. Alternative you can mix 40 parts of ink with 60 parts of nozzle cleaner. After profiling it doesnt matter but you have to keep this ratio

I put Black and Grey from Canon G570 to Canon Pro 200 and the output is acceptable, the black is not as dark as it should be. It needs ICC profiles. Then I put Grey from Canon G570 to Canon Pro 200 and the output is terrible, especially the tone grading of grey, which becomes much darker thank it should be. I did a human face print and the output was awful.

I will take me some time to test the longevity. In the meanwhile, I need advice on diluting the grey of Canon G570. Thanks maximaler for your suggestion on diluting the Grey, I haven't tried that.

Important: Do not put Grey of Canon G570 to Light Grey of Canon Pro 200, the Light Grey channel will get clogged badly after several prints. I thought that the printhead was gone, luckily it worked well after head cleaning 4 times
