I tried calling Canon support, and they offered me their Canon upgrade program with an $1100 replacement. No thanks, I've got a lifetime supply of ink for this printer, and I really need to get it working. I had a second one that I borrowed the printhead from, but I didn't have the space to keep it around, so I put it out on the street and a stranger picked it up.

When I turn it on it goes through the whole startup process, but then at the very end it makes a 2 second screech sound and then the lights alternate blinking 17 times is (the orange light blinks 17 times and each orange blink is followed by a white light blink).

When I turn it on and it's connected via USB, the printer status shows idle on my pc. If I try and print a nozzle check pattern I get a support code 6010. Does anyone have any idea what my issue could be?

I sure wish that I hadn't gotten rid of my other printer now. I have so much invested in this think, and we have 3 kids which I've always loved just printing random pictures out and popping them on the fridge for fun.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

I would try a total reset first:

  1. Turn off the printer but leave it plugged in.
  2. Hold the Resume/Cancel button (triangle inside a circle).
  3. Press and hold the Power button (don’t release Resume/Cancel).
  4. While holding the Power button, release Resume/Cancel.
  5. Press the Resume/Cancel button five times, then release the Power button.
  6. The printer will restart. Wait until it stops making noises.
  7. The printer is now reset.
  8. Power down with Power button.
  9. Restart with the Power button. Wait until it stops making noises.
I had to do that once. I had 10 flashes of the orange lamp, and it would do nothing after even a proper shutdown and start up. The 10 flashes say it's either a over-heated print-head or the motherboard. I said (sorry Canon), what a stupid and useless error message. Anyway, that was a couple months ago, and after the total reset my Pro-100 has worked just fine.

Perhaps I need add some fairness and say I am however concernedly awaiting a print-head failure, that has more frequently show signs of plugging. So the print-head over-heating may become serious. Luckily I have a new one on hand.

All the Best with your printer.
I know I love my Pro-100. I will be a sad day when I need to finally replace it.

As I do not own or know anything about this printer, but I do know about repairing broken machines without guidance. Assuming the screech sound isn't produced by a speaker inside the printer, it directly indicates towards some hardware (motor, pulley, gear or guided rail) issue. Considering you dropped it, if you're lucky something snapped or moved out of place, if you're less lucky some plastic piece broke that you could glue, if you're out of luck some precision metal part bent or broke otherwise. The error code most likely just reflects that some startup prerequisite self test could not complete, so the controller in the printer 'says no' to prevent further damage.

If Canon is no help and there's no independent repair service in your area, to fix it you would have to disassemble it to see what's up. If you dare it, before disassembly try to locate the source of the screeching. When located, look for some disassembly guide or some other media online that covers that area so you got a good idea of what it could be causing the sound. Then, look for some media that shows some example or guide how to disassemble your printer towards the affected area. From there, look at the parts that are making the sound and see if you can spot the issue. Printers obviously have a lot of gears and springs that can snap out of place, also while disassembling it, so be careful.

Additionally, have you tried to reseat the printhead? It might be misaligned after you dropped it. That seems to be a common issue for a screech sound in your specific printer. Something else I found while searching real quick was someone that had a belt that had come off its pulley.

Best of luck, hope I wrote something of use to you.

Pull the top cover off and see where the print head is jamming and free it up, it’s not hard to do, so have a go, you’ve nothing to lose..

Thanks. Should the printhead move to the center when you open the top cover even when there is an error code? Mine is not doing that, but I am able to manually pull it to the middle and when I power it on it reverts to it's hidy hole.

Also, one thing that does happen on occasion is that the back paper feed door detaches on one side. I can push that back into place though and it seems to stick.

Thank you for the suggestion, but sadly, this did not work.

I pulled the cover off and started it up. The printhead never goes more than a third of the way over.

After checking further the screech at the end is that bar underneath the white flaps. It decides to spin superfast for a second or two to make its presence known.
