Canon Pixma Pro 100s Injket & Going On Holiday for 2 Weeks

I'm due to go away for 2 weeks at the back end of August and am wondering if there's anything I can do to help prevent my print head from clogging due to not being used for that time. I have a Canon Pixma Pro 100s inkjet and have been told that up to one week without use it normally fine but two weeks and beyond you're risking a clogged printed. I'd rather not come back from holiday needing to pay £120 for a new head so is there anything I can do with the printer to make it less likely to clog whilst I'm away?

You don’t have to do anything with your printer it will be fine, but if you wish too. Then put a saucer of water on the paper outlet tray and cover the printer with a cloth, paper or plastic bag, and when you get back just run a nozzle check after it has been powered on.. No worries…

I have on a number of occasions not used my Canon Pixma Pro 100 printer for over a month, with no clogged print head. This printer uses dye ink, which is much better with resisting clogs than pigment ink.

That is disputable, because since changing over to using pigment inks, I have found them far better at resisting the temptation to clog, I can go weeks without use and still have no issues..

My opinion on this matter is inconclusive. I have found no significant differences between both types of inks on my Canon printers. Probably the fact that the inks is dye or pigment isn't as important as the conditions of storage ( temperature, humidity ) frepuency of use and the brand of ink (OEM, third party ).

If you do not plan to use the printer for an extended period of time, remove the cartridges and wrap them tightly in plastic wrap to keep them fresh. This will also prevent ink from getting into the tubes and printheads, drying them out, and clogging them.

This might be the worst advice I've seen on the forum!

Never leave the printhead without cartridges for any extended period of time. Without cartridges installed the the printhead will dry out and develop clogs that cannot be removed,
