Since this thread was started I salvaged a Canon MG5550. After some cleaning and installing a set of compatible cartridges the printer was OK again. But I was not able to enter service mode. This printer is of the same cartridge generation as your printer. So sadly I think this means no more resetting the ink absorber counter for newer Canon printers
