Canon MG 5540 compatable ink cartridges

I have an MG5550 which is the European version of the MG55540. I use these single use compatible cartridges from a Danish supplier. They work well and the colour match is good. There is one drawback though, the "big black" cartridge is filled with dye ink instead of pigment ink, meaning that text is not waterproof or highlighter resistant. A set of 5 cartridges is DKK 65 or approximately £ 6.50.

Some compatible or refillable cartridges work well, others don't so watch the print quality carefully and stop printing at the first signs of ink starvation or clogged nozzles, to avoid damaging the print head.

Compatible cartridges for single use should not be refilled, even if they have worked well. You risk ink starvation, see this.

I suggest to try the refillable cartridges mentioned by stratman or if you can find some reasonably priced compatible cartridges for single use for the MG55540 then try those.

@Pariah, Again I sympathise with you 100% but, all of these Canon franchises are connected by NAME only, their response to your requests were shameful, but what else could they do, except sell you another printer, then you would have found a more willing recipient to talk too but not necessary any more helpful.

Not one of my engagements, either face to face, any telephone conversations or Emails have ever been satisfactory, adequate or even positive so you’re not alone, and I even bought my printers in the EU, the less dealings you have with Canon Inc., the better off you are.

Now if you go back and check your software information, it is clearly mentioned that the printer you purchased will work perfectly and be supported in the region it was intended for, especially the bit containing to the specific cartridges that your printer needs.

Canon EU do not care a hoot about any person who breaks their rules regarding the proper running of any of their printers, even in the smallest way, whether it’s out of ignorance or accident, their response will always be the same, " Send it back for service ", and my advice to you is, cut your losses and move on and buy another brand of printer of your choice.

I loved to be sucker punched, I go out and buy yet another Friggin Canon printer...

A workaround is to turn off ink level monitoring in the printer and refill the OEM cartridges with aftermarket ink. You will have to watch the cartridges for low ink, since the printer will no longer warn you, and refill before ink runs out and your print head is starved for ink and potentially burns out in permanent failure.

The downsides are the labor of watching ink levels yourself, potential print head burn out, and increased wasting of ink. The upsides are continued use of your printer and the joys of refilling and saving money.
