Canon ix6850 ciss advise

hi guys

looking for advice on the following

I run several ix6850 canons with ciss, they run great for 2 months then.....

I get vertical streaks towards bottom 1/3 of the a4 sheet

I notice a puddle of ink on the long grey sponge that runs across the whole printer near the head (just to the right of the a4 sheet when in printer)

I have tried cleaning this/a new head but with no luck

anyone else had this issue, thinking it could be to do with the ink waste device or wiper blade, any advice please before i strip it, seems such a waste to scrap them already

Hi @danuk76 you have done well to keep your CISS running as long as that without encountering a problem on your low profile printer.

CISS units are never a good idea for any Canon printer because they inevitably cause no end of trouble, the purge unit and wiper blades are not responsible for the ink puddles that is down to the CISS itself, they have a tendency to do that quite frequently.

The long grey sponge can be removed and cleaned in water but it is difficult to get it back in again, (There’s a knack to it) so your best option is to fold up some paper towels to soak up the excess ink and it will be all right again.

The only other option you have is to run your printer using good refillable cartridges with ARC chips, they will cause far less problems and give much better control over your prints, not ideal but much better that a CISS any day..

I was using the refillable crystal food cartridges but found myself having to refill 3 sets every single day and have saved so much time with the ciss

That is perfectly true but they did work reliably for you, CISS on the other hand works till it fouls up then you’re out of action altogether, that doesn’t happen with refilling.

You may need a couple of sets of filled cartridges spare if you print a lot and maybe improve on your refilling technique too that might speed up any down time you spend refilling, you may need a printer with a bigger cartridge like the Pro 100, just a suggestion..

I have a few printers that have oem ciss, with long ink tubes running from the (relatively) large stationary cartridges to the printheads mounted on the carriage. On the one sitting in front of me, (an HP cp1700), there is a solid arm clamping the ink tube securely to the carriage assembly. This eliminates most of the stress on the ink tube's connections to the printheads. (Note that the carriage reverses directions rather violently many times every time it prints a page.) All of the aftermarket ciss units that I've seen lack any stress relief on the connections between the ink tubes and the carriage-mounted cartridges, Furthermore, the cartridges and their mounts carry the additional stress caused by the mass of the ink tubes. This may well be the cause of your problem. If you really want a ciss, either buy a printer with stationary cartridges and a built-in ciss, or shop around for an aftermarket solution that doesn't place additional inertial stresses on the cartridges. I hope that this adds some understanding.

There is an option to make somebody print you the tube holder for you printer etc. using 3D printer and some ABS plastic

hi guys

I found the reason for the streaks, see piccy the out feed spike rollers have picked up the rubber of the rubber rollers ????

any one know how to prevent this or where to buy new ones, although i assume the rollers will be no good aswell?

happens after 1000ish prints maybe less

1) Are you sure that's not dried ink overflow pickup on the output rollers? (Pig Black?)

2) Are you printing border-less or some other technique which dumps ink past the media edge to flood the absorber pad?

3) Leak at the head carriage seals?

I had the roller streaks on my MX7600.
IMO it is caused by ink sprayed over the paper edges and dripping through the long gray sponge while printing borderless.

I replaced the long grey sponge by small bands cut from a kitchen sponge.
You need a few to span the width but they absorb ink better, are stronger to remove, rinse under the tap and replace.

Cleaning the purge unit helps too.

have you considered the possibility that your CISS systems are worn out and need to be replaced? The back and forth movement of the carriage causes cyclic tension and compression forces on the ink tubes and associated parts. The stretched out parts could conceivably act as a pump, pressurizing the ink in the printhead and leading to leaks.
