Hi everyone,
I am hoping someone can help me figure out what is wrong with my 3-weeks old Mg6220.
The problem I am having now is it cannot go in service mode anymore. When holding the Power button and pressing "stop" 5 times then releasing the power button, the printer simply just hangs on me. The orange lighting bolt triangle sign is on. I have to pull the plug, literally, to make it work again. It was able to go in service mode prior to my tinkering with service tools. Because I could not find the version 1.081, I tried many other tools, 1074, 2000, 3200, 3400. They simply hung up after I pressed "eeprom." Since I did not know how to escape the service mode properly, I had to pull the plug, repeatedly. Then, it stopped going into service mode any more.
Can anyone help? I am looking to get into service mode again to look for page count. I used brand new cartridges and only after three weeks the low-ink warnings have already been popping up! Canon's page yield statistics for this model say the cartridges can produce more than 330 pages, and I have not printed that much.

Canon is printing continuously on 10x15 pages with their "special" pattern. In normal use you will never reach the 330 pages/set. That page count is lower when you take into account the cleaning cycles and the fact that your photos may use more cyan and magenta than yellow, etc.

Does this mean, that you have been able to perform service mode operations on this printer, but no longer can access service mode? Or does it mean that you have been able to perform service mode operations on other printers, but not on the MG6220?

You find a service manual for the MG5220 printer that is of the same generation as the MG6220 here: http://elektrotanya.com/canon_pixma-mg5220_sm.pdf/download.html . For download see this instruction: http://www.printerknowledge.com/thr...-post-them-here-sticky.5071/page-9#post-36684

Your procedure for entering service mode does not look correct to me. Here is the procedure from the MG5220 service manual:

i. With the machine power turned off, while pressing the Stop button, press and hold the ON button. (DO NOT release the buttons.)
ii. When the Power LED lights in green, while holding the ON button, release the Stop button. (DO NOT release the ON button.)
iii. While holding the ON button, press the Stop button 5 times, and release the ON button. (Each time the Stop button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green.)
iv. When the Power LED lights in green, the machine is ready for the service mode operation (nothing is displayed on the LCD).

The MG6200 series of printers only has one traditional push button for the on/off function. The rest of the push buttons are replaced by sensor fields and only those relevant for a function are lit. But it is claimed that sensors that are not lit are still active so the stop/resume sensor is used in the same way as the stop/resume button on other printers when entering service mode.

I found the info here: http://www.druckerchannel.de/forum.php?seite=beitrag&ID=242505&t=servicemode_bei_mg6250_ or in "Denglisch": http://translate.google.dk/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=da&ie=UTF-8&u=http://www.druckerchannel.de/forum.php?seite=beitrag&ID=242505&t=servicemode_bei_mg6250_

Even if the printer has wireless capability, service mode operations only works with a USB connection. When performing service mode operations on a printer, only that printer must be connected to the computer. If you have more printers, all other printers must be disconnected.

You can read more about service tools and service mode operations in this (lengthy) thread: http://www.printerknowledge.com/threads/canon-service-tool-v2000.6615/

Hi @Ant

Did you manage to get your MG6220 to enter service mode? Did the Druckerchannel tip work? If you were successful, this will certainly be of interest to others.

Hi PeterBJ,
Thank you for replying.
I tried your tip but still could not get into service mode :(
I was able to get into service mode using the instructions described in MG6120 service manual (Turn off printer. Press and hold On button, press Stop 5 times then release Power button). The printer was connected to my laptop with a USB cable; no other printer was connected. I tried many service tool versions: 1074, 3200, 3400... Each time I pressed "EEPROM" in order to get a printout of EEPROM info. Every the service tool version hung after the "EEPROM" command was initiated, no error popped up. Now, the printer refuses to go into service mode. Disconnecting the printer overnight and trying again do not help either. I think it's permanently screwed up.
