Hi - I own a Pixma Pro9000 and live in a country where CLI-8 cartridges and even Canon Photo Paper Pro are very hard to get. I've been importing my inks and the last time I did that, the vendor accidentally sent PGI-8M (Magenta) instead of CLI-8M which is what Pixma Pro9000 uses. My new shipment is not due for a couple of weeks and I'm running out of Magenta. I was wondering if I could use the PGI-8M in the CLI-8M slot without damaging my printer or completely messing up the print. Any advice will be highly appreciated!!!! Thank you.

No, don't do that. Pigment inks have particulate matter suspended in the ink which gives it the color but can clog the smaller nozzles designed for dye ink. Besides, I don't think the printer will allow you to use the wrong cartridge unless you swap the chips and reset them but if you are buying cartridges, you probably don't have a resetter anyway.

Did you mean to say PGI-9 rather than PGI-8, I have never heard of a PGI-8 cartridge before..:|

The Hat, yes, I meant PGI-9; sorry for the confusion. And thank you ghwellsjr for your response. I don't have a resetter and I definitely don't want to clog my printer head because it's the only printer I have right now. Just opened up a photography studio and am making prints up to 11x14 in-house. Had stocked up on all the inks and would have been very "well-stocked" save for this mess-up on the PGI-9 and CLI-8 cartridges :) Thanks. I am very glad to have joined this forum and I think I'm going to learn a lot here and hopefully be able to contribute back to the discussions.

Your Canon CLI-8 cartridges are so easy to fill and if you get a resetter with Image Specialists inks the problem of stock would be a thing of the past.
When you use your printer regularly the chances of a clogged print head are extremely rare with quality inks and the colour differences will not be very noticeable.. :)
