Got the dreaded B200 error on my Canon Pixma Pro 100s, which according to Canon now means I have an expensive paper weight. However after a bit of research / YouTube I've found a lot of people have actually managed to fix this.

I want to try replacing the print head as this might be the issue but it's "locked" over to the right-hand side of the printed and I can't move it (tried using a fair amount of force but it won't budge).

Anyone had a similar issue and did you figure out how to resolve the B200 error and also did you manage to get the print head free???

*edit* for info, it was working perfectly fine prior to this but was making a bit of a "clacking" noise. The image quality was fine though.

Before buying a new print head, try cleaning the timing strip, that might reset the B200 error..

Following on from this (printer still broken today), if I manage to get the printhead free and can take the ink carts out, is it worth re-using them in a different printer or is there a risk with that? What I'm asking is if the B200 error is because of the print head and the ink carts are fine, or could the problem be with one or more of the ink carts themselves? Would I be better off just ditching the whole printer including the ink carts and using my backup Pro100s instead?

I'm not sure what is your experience level with repairing printers, but you never force a printhead along the carriage. There will be a combination of button presses/touchscreen menu items on any given printer to move it out of the way, usually to the middle of the carriage.

Your over thinking your printer problem, just get a new print head and it will work without any issues going forwards..

The Cli 42 carts are interchangeable with most of that model range and they can’t give a B200 error..

Thanks Mr Hat, I think you're probably correct.

I'm going to try and take the side off the case and cut open the inner case to reveal the locking mechanism, as per this video:

If I can do this I ought to be able to get the carriage free and then replace the print head.

I can't believe Canon built in a feature that basically bricks your printer so you can't easily change the print head in case of a failure. Then again I suppose they'd prefer it if you bought another one rather than being able to repair it...
