Most of the sellers I came across are selling printers like furniture. They add printer photo most of the time not the actual photo but the they found on the internet.

Furthermore they no nothing about nozzle checks, and that is in 2013.

I came across a seller that was selling ip8500 the printer had no ink carts in it and sellers said was not used for 6 months. However the nozzle check was perfect. I would have bought the thing if the price would not have been almost the same as new printhead for ip8500.

As I have Pixma 6700D, I can buy almost 3x printheads for my printer for the price of one printhead for ip8500, the resolution is better on my printer so in the end I did not buy it. But yes miracles do happen.

Yes I believe there are some diamonds in the rough and I guess its a case of taking a chance on them even though you cant demo them on the spot, I am after a workhorse IP series and a nice wide format printer, of course then there's the sellers who don't understand the concept of used/2nd hand goods... they believe they are entitled to get their retail price back and that they are doing everybody a big favor by not also wanting the tax they paid on the item back too... its only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it...end of story

cheers Ant

I have bought 2 S/H canons a MP760 for 7.50 with CD/manuals/18 Black carts NON OEM because the seller did not want to post this heavy item they had little interest hence my bargain. It cost me about 20 in fuel and 3hours round trip. Had starvation problems to start with but with help from the forum members I got it going fine. Got some used OEM carts and started refilling them.

Next one was a Canon Pixma MP620 wireless model. This was ex demonstration via E-bay bid cost me 34 3/4 full tanks but not OEM. When it arrived it had all the manuals/CD etc and the Canon test print underr the scanner lid. Machine was spotless and is still my current printer.

Another possible source is refurbs. from Canon outlets although tend to be low end models and ink is not always supplied.

I have been lucky with my purchases. Always ask questions if description is a bit vague.

Good hunting

Ant - the ip5000 is an excellent printer. I believe It was one of the first Canons with 1picoliter nozzles, For a four dye-based color cart plus a large black pigment-based cart printer, the photo printing is really beautiful. I am presently using one for photo printing. I also have a factory sealed new ip5000 in reserve plus a slightly used one on the shelf as well. I don't remember what the original price was, but I bought the three of them when they were being closed out. Just be sure you are able to test it before buying as I don't think there are any more printheads available. It is a very solid printer - built much better than the newest generation of printers by far

I watch Craig's list here in the San Francisco Bay Area almost every day. If i were to see a really inexpensive one for sale I'd buy it for another spare or to give to a family member. Best of all, no chips on the carts! I use Image Specialist inks - available from Octoinks in the UK and Precision Colors in Canada (with very inexpensive and quick shipping to the US). The color match is so close to OEM ink that I am using these inks with no special color management.

Spoke to this person and he says "well they sell on amazon for $249..." so I said well they sell on ebay for $945 and $499...(that's true as I am tracking those two in my ebay watch list just for fun)...I said the model on amazon is "new old stock" your printer is "used"...
I made the guy an offer that was above what the other printers on the site where selling for but that wasn't good enough, so at some point he will let it go for whatever someone offers him when he gets bored or it will go to the landfill because of the ego that's invested...oh well

I cant agree with you guys about the comedy prices, I find it pretty reasonable considering.

The PIXMA iP3000 is one of the old time greats which has an awful lot going for it when all is said and done,
like easy to refill clear cartridges and no chips to worry about.

The ink savings in the first 12 months would save you 3 or 4 times that much in ink alone,
so yes its very good value in deed.

I got a reconditioned i9950 from Germany last year for 359 and its a real treasure,
same thing with BCI-6 cartridges and I consider it to be a real bargain, still do..:)

Ant - That price isn't terrible if the printer (and especially the print head) is working as new. Obviously, we'd always want to pay less - especially for a used item. If the printer is local, still with a good amount of ink in all carts, uses OEM carts only, and has had low usage you might consider buying it. Ask if anyone on the forum has the code to use for checking the number of pages it has printed. Also, if the seller still has it installed on his computer you can ask to run the diagnostic to verify past usage, print a nozzle check, and print an 8.5 x11 photo from one of your own photo files.

As far as I'm concerned, this is one of the real gems from the BCI-6 era.

Its out of character for you to disagree The Hat! :) but again I can see the logic in your reply, I've almost paid for my printer by refilling already, still $949 and $499 is ridiculous in my book.
