Yes,
Yes, I confirm v5103 is not working on my ix6850, which displays a first install date of 2014 when printing EEPROM with v4905. At least, it did not lock the service mode!
V4905 works for printing EEPROM info, but I can’t say if the ink pad reset function works because, I didn’t test it...
I have a very happy ending!
I finally found V4905, and to my surprise, clicking on EEPROM made my printer eat that paper and print the EEPROM information!
I can confirm V4905 works perfectly on IX6850
So what my feedback on this :
- Always start with the newest version of service tool...
So I tried the v5103 version and all I get is error 006 and 005. I don't think I'm locked out of service mode because I can still activate it. But service tool can't print EEPROM! Weird
Wow, thank you for your feedback, nobody on the internet say you first have to install the USB driver before attempting service mode connexion...
I just wanted to know the ink pad counter level because it is a second hand printer and as I will use it for commercial purpose, I would like to...
Thank you for your answer, yes I already know about it, I have Service Tool v5103 ready on my PC. I just wanted to know if Service Tool is using the default USB driver (on Canon CD) which you would have installed first with the printer or if it is a completely independent thing that can access...
Hello,
I’m using a ix6850 using LAN, which means I chose LAN install instead of USB when setting the driver.
it has never been connected to my PC with a usb cable.
Now, I would like to enter service mode and connect my printer to my PC to reset counters.
Is it safe to plug it in service mode...
I would as a last resort insert another color inside the troublesome ink slot and see if they light up. (you risk mixing colors but a print head cleaning would certainly clean everything).
If it doesn't light up, your printer is faulty
Well they are breaking our french law, maybe in Ireland you don't have suck law! We in France do have this and Apple and other brands have been paying millions of euros after being sued in my country!
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-42615378...
Well, we have a law in my counry preventing this exact "fraud", so I'll surely use it when it is time
Either service my printer for free or you will get sued, period  (this is seriously infuriating)
But I have seen recent Canon printers from 2018 get resetted with Canon service tool...
Do all new canon printers have disabled ink waste reset in service tool ?
Or only pro models ?
This move from Canon is against a french law against planned obsolescence. As a french, I would and will certainly sue them if my €1000 printer gets out of service because of a stupid locked ink...
PeterBJ, you were right!
After checking with a magnifier, it actually is an optical sensor, the sensor is so tiny you can barely spot it. There is a tiny hole in the trunk facing the ink led lights at the bottom
I don't know if it's prone to damage due to static electricity, I touched it while the printer was on, and so far it seems ok, but I don't have ink cartdriges at the moment so can't test if all is ok.
The main issue is I almost ripped the cable while pulling the top cover because I had no idea...
Well, there is no hole for a sensor to see light through in the "trunk" where the sensor sits... Could be magnetic detection ? But why would they put this sensor since there are already chips on each ink cartdridge that let the printer know they are inserted ?
Also, it is not the WLAN card...
The procedure was identical to the IX6500 series except there is a weird sensor / chip you have to unscrew before taking the printer's top cover :
This is where it is located. To open the plastic door, use a needle and slide to the left.
Edit:
Hello,
While disassembling my Canon printer, I've found I had to move away a little chip that prevented me from taking the printer's top cover.
I touched the PCB while the printer was on and fear I have damaged something. I would like to know what is actually does.
This is how it looks ...
Hello,
I have found the service manual for Canon 6500 series, which is identical to the 6800 seeries, so the tear down process looks the same!
I bought 4mm aquarium pipes on aliexpress and will install them as soon as the printer displays the infamous 5b00 error!
I currently have the service...
Hello, I own two IX6820 printers, one is new and the other was bought used and will be my test machine. On this used printer, I would like to install a waste tank.
I found a video of the process for another Canon printer:

Do you know the diameter of those small...
Hello everyone,
I'm looking to print photos with white borders around.
How would it be best done ?
Preparing all my photos with photoshop and adding a white border for each one of them ?
Or doing it in the Canon printer settings just before printing ? Can it be done ? (I'm using a Canon...
Thank you for giving it a shot ! That's very interesting because, despite the extra GREY ink, it doesn't looks like there is much of a difference between the two, regarding middle tones.
Does the Canon 8750 B&W print looks really better in real life compared to your mg6650 print ?
Also, if you...
