When i bought an Epson XP-900 about a month ago from Amazon Germany, i immediately noticed that there was ink on the easte pad and some drops in the vicinity. Before i ever opened any of the setup cartridges. WicRest was showing virgin counters. Everything else in packaging etc. looked new too...
Welcome to self-refiller training camp, Week 1. I had the same experience. Week 2 was cross contamination between inks because i had started to swap cartridges while not closing the air plugs and therefore dripped so much ink that it cross contaminated the print head nozzles. Week 3 i figured...
wrt to dye vs. pigment: I have not investigated these "office" printers from epson, but if you want predictable ink behavior, dye or pigment, get refillable cartridges. It even seems as if you could get an external resetter for T27, thats what i would go for.
2014 mikling had a more specific suggestion when changing from pigment to dye, albeit for a different printer. Given how i guess the printer will have to be initialized with original pigment cartridges (being an epson), i would guess this recommendation does apply in this case...
There are 1000'th of these print heads available from aliexpress < $40.
Uneducated guesswork: Print head from old printer on craigslist or print head from aliexpress are same age.
Likelihood of craigslist head to have been cleaned is quite low, aliexpress print head being cleaned is fairly...
In doubt, making paper white with OBA is cheper than without. Theoretically it should also be possible to make OBA paper brighter. After all, you're converting some otherwise untapped spectrum energy and make it visible.
Shouldn't the i1pro be helpfull to diagnose OBA level in paper ? Eg: any...

I was first confused about this statement, but i guess this is not meant to say that this paper helps avoid fading of the ink. Just fading of the paper itself.
Not really. Lots of diligence on your part. In comparison, your sun is quite lazy :p
I get pretty good patch roasting here. Black ink in CC paper fading very pronounced after second day. Other three colors look same across three papers to naked eye. Interesting.
Comparing inks & papers with...
Whot ?!... i bought an i1pro for $300 to profile colors for third-party ink, and this can all be done with one test print instead ? No Way
Kidding ;) This is a very nice simple method and should be good enough for non-Photo printing. If you're lucky, it might even give you pretty...
Right. Was only trying to theorize how much faster i might be able to see results with my higher UV index.
Just checked after 24 hours and the print4life (CC paper) already shows browning of the black patch. Kirkland and HP photo paper holding up well. Should be able to scan some result...
"Whatever" = "Sun in Germany" ? UV index = 1 (

Alas, a chip in my refillable cartridge set failed and is on its way to china for replacement, so i have right now just a random pre-filled cartridge ink patch to learn how to do this fading testing.
South...

We also now offer virgin aftermarket compatible cartridges that work and they also include # resettable 42 chips as well.
Peter: Still need to find non-OEM CLI-42 chips that work in a resetter, right ? PC only offers non-OEM cartridges with chips, but not chips alone.
Ebay has 2 or three sellers of one-time chips, but they do not say if those are resettable. There is one "unlimited" chip offer. Couldn't find this...

Argghhh, yes. Got it now (i hope). Thanks for the hammer. :hide
I was looking at the table at http://precisioncolors.com/PC42cart.html which didn't say eg: CLI-8 cart/CLI-8 chip - and overlooked to read the paragraph 4 of the fine print on top that is explaining it. Oh, and...
I always thought that functional pieces for the household would be a great way to increase the WAF.
I've just always been set back by 3D modeling complexity and material (resolution, stability) limits.
Here's two ideas from Maker Faire for decorative 3D printing.
One was still made old-style...

I wonder why PC does not offer the package you have (resetter, ink XXoz, refill bottle needles, 3 set of Canon OEM, cleaning fluid) as the "Ultimate Refill Bliss Kit XXoz" together with those instructions:
Fill 2 cartridge sets, swap after printer...
Curious:
How much better or cheaper will 3D printers be in 2 years ? Up to now i thought 3D printers where rapidly improving, so anything you bought was quickly obsolete. But i have not followed the trend in the past 2 years.
With normal printers i figure that there will be no significantly...
