You are experimenting with inkjet inks but the chemistry of your trials is quite complex. You need to find a forum where similar people are experimenting. This forum is mainly for users rather than makers so far as inks are concerned. I am very interested in what you are doing however. The...
There are printers that use dyes for color and pigment for their blacks. They use whichever method to create black in prints depending on what paper is being used. If it's gloss they mix dyes to get black - usually resulting in a color cast. Really good profiling to get a good icc will often...
If you mean that dye inks don't fade if laminated, we've found that not to be so. Even HP current dyes only have a non observable fade life when laminated of about 2 years indoors. We've done multiple dye ink fade tests and all drastically under-perform even third party pigment inks, even when...
What is"pigment polymer water resistant ink"? A T 120 is a very recent unit, I think they only appeared in 2015. Totally different print head to DJ 500.
If you want a weather proof print, we use clear auto spray as a final finish. Image usually outlasts the canvas or paper it's printed on when...
Someone earlier asks how the pigment in dye channels of an HP T120 is going now. It's been printing normally for some time - we're on the seccond set of pigment carts and everything is normal. I should pint out that we use a Qimage auto ink purge routine every 5 days to keep the flow going...
Further info: I put a dye yellow cartridge in the printer and left the cyan and magenta and black "pigment" ones in.
Using plain paper I printed test image and let the paper and inks dry. Then when immersing the paper in water only the yellow leached out, the others couldn't even be rubbed off...
I took the suggestion of trying it for myself using a Chinese site which supplies re-filled carts for HP T120 printers. They say the carts are filled with pigment ink and they also sell print head assemblies for about US$100. Seemed worth the chance.
The machine printed out as easily as it did...
Just musing on naming similarities. (BASF are the major pigment suppliers to ink makers. I once used data from a Royal Chemistry Society research paper to estimate that at a generous margin the price for OEM ink should be about 23% on average of what they do charge.)
However, still to hear from...
Anyone thinking of making an ink product should probably talk to clarient.com in Switzerland. Looking at their site, products and info in general, I bet that's where Epson got the name "Claria", and raw materials for its long-life dyes. More likely is that Clarient makes Epson's inks.
On a printer site that I can't remember, someone said that they used pigment in a dye HP printer but I can't remember where I saw it. My post here is in case that member reads it and responds. They said it works provided regular shaking of the carts was done.
So far as print heads go, the...
As I said, still looking for direct experience. "Ink Stained Fingers" did this but a trial done with an HP head, whether successful or not is what I'm looking for. (I am very familiar with head design.)
I'm familiar with various ink technologies and the printer head systems. What I'm really looking for is someone whose tried what I'm looking at and either had success or failure.
With the HP T120 the cost of failure is slight since a new print head costs just over US $200. What intrigues me is...
In answer to the question - "any printers that really give anyone much for the money?" there is an Epson tank printer and some others that use pigment ink (e.g.Brother DCP-T310.and HP Smart Tank 455). Probably the best bet so far. Dye inksets in tank printers are said to be inferior to the...
Has anyone direct knowledge of using pigment in an HP wide format? There are many HP wide printers with three colors and black (Design Jet 500 series and T120 as well as others.). The black is pigment and the colors are dye.
My T120 is a fairly new design and can easily go beyond the plan and...
