Ouch, Yesterday my Pro10s gave me a nasty B200 error message when trying to print something. I turned off the machine with the front button and then I disconnected the cable from the power outlet for 10-15minutes. Reconnect, switch on and back to normal.. for a while, because today I started printing normally and then suddenly ..B200 again !.
Same procedure as before and the printer works now normally, for the time being.

Anyway, two B200 errors in two days are an ominous warning. Printhead dying ?, That would be weird because nozzle checks have been perfect for a long time and so are the printed jobs.
Who knows?. The Pro10s isn’t as troublesome as the Pro-1 but they’re cousins.
I have a new spare printhead in reserve, but I’d much prefer to keep using this one as long as possible. Fingers crossed !.

Just for the record, I recall now that the first B200 error happened shortly after I replaced all the carts, when one of them was declared empty.
Among the spare set which replaced the first one, the cyan cart failed to be recognized after I closed the lid. When that happens I know that 95% of the times it’s because of dirty or partially oxidized chip contacts. I’ve been using these two sets of Pro10s carts for more than three years and no wonder that the chip contacts of some of them are already quite worn and tarnished.
Cleaning the contacts with IPA and/or rubbing them with a narrow strip of sanding paper usually fixes the problem and so it did this time. I was able to print normally a nozzle check and a couple of pages .. before the first B200 error popped in.

Firstly, print heads just die for no apparent reason and it would seem yours is now at the end of life.

Now here’s the important bit… Don’t wait for the B200 to reappear again, because the chances are the print head won’t move to the exchange position and then you’re in all sorts of trouble if that happens.

Try raising the top cover and powering on the printer, that should cause the head to move for you, good luck changing to the new head.. What’s happened to you is typical of the way these heads tend to go bust..

P.S. In all the time I was using my Pro 1, I never had a B200 error or had to change the print head.. O’ I lost the print head on my Pro 9500 mark ll much the same way just after printing a Photo.. Shit happens..

Thanks for the insight. :)

Guess what ?. Today I switched on the Pro10s. Nothing weird happened at first. Lights on the printer normal, but when I tried to print a nozzle check, here we go again .. B200!.
I proceeded like the other times: disconnecting the cable for a few minutes, reconnect and the Pro10s powered OK and printed normally.
Dilemma : should or should not disregard your advice and wait to replace the printhead until the carriage won't move to the center?. It hurts to part with a printhead which all nozzles in perfect shape.
Maybe mine is a weird case of error B200 triggering every time the machine is powered off with the printer button and recovering again when the cable is disconnected form the power.

Now, where I stored that spare printead ? :p

That indeed is the dilemma, but if you wait, things can only get worse, you may lose the whole printer if it locks you out.

You’ve had many a good year with this printer and you’ll have many more, so it’s not going to be a huge problem to replace the dodgy print head, but it is make you mind up time and move on before the printer bites you in the bum.

Yes, I have dealt with the "stuck" printhead in my Pro-10. You really don't want to wait until that happens! It requires dis-assembling the entire right side, removal all of the lids, and you will disover that the wires that run the the circuit board where the buttons are are very short. I had to re-solder two wires back to the breadboard. Not fun, that.

There is maybe some relation between non recognized carts and the B200 error. A maximum number of errors ?

A recently new member @The digital hunter contacted me about this, but I didn't know the answer and I suggested asking help here (he did not until now).

Time to start dissecting the PRO-10 (I located a PRO-10S with a probably clogged printhead for a song, hope to get it this week).

No more Canon (or Epson ) Pro machines for me. If this Pro-10s dies before myself, all my 2D printing needs will be performed by one of my MB5150 (who's showing off ? :p ).

RIght now I'm making new profiles for the Pro10s because I changed one of the inks (Pro1 red replaced by Pro1000 red). So I got the chance to put in real use for the first time my 3D printed Color-Munki ruler.
No errors B200 today. Madam Pro10s decided to behave nicely.
The only 'accident' was that I had to repeat one of the profiles because I forgot to disable color management in Qimage settings when printing the sheet of patches..

I thought of that too, although I've had in the past problems with dirty contacts and no error B200 happened.
You may have a point with the maximum number of errors theory but, again, Canon only knows and they won't tell us.
