OM2 The Halfords product will probably be designed for cleaning car glass and may have a different specification to the household ones previously offered. Pharmicist's suggestion has been well accepted by this forum and not difficult to produce. It will not damage your printheads.

I'm afraid you cannot always get exactly what you want off the shelf.

I recently got a heads up from Art Entlich that this stuff "Simple Green All Purpose Cleaner" was a good option...

... with these suggested approaches:
I would suggest first trying it diluted half strength with water to start, although full strength is probably not damaging. I would not suggest mixing it with either my usual recommended cleaning solution or with either ammonia or isopropyl alcohol. I do know that one of the ingredients in "Simple Green All Purpose Cleaner" is not soluble in ethanol (another type of alcohol), but, once again, I have not done any testing as of yet.

Since mixing certain cleaning solvents together can result in unexpected releases or gases, or heat, I strongly advise against mixing any of these agents together, and that one reads and heeds any cautions on the product bottle.
Chemical safety is an absolute MUST throughout...

Is ammonia water a "controlled substance" in the UK?

i've no idea!
but... for me that's a consideration whether controlled or not
i have little ones who will get up to lots of things!
not sure i want to store away large amounts of substances that i only actually need a a few ml of
maybe i'd be better off buying a solution of a seller on ebay? hmmmm...

In the USA, ammonia (water) is sold in larger quantities of at least a quart. Windex comes in about the same size, and for head cleaning you can use a lot (many ml).

Ajax Window Cleaner from Colgate-Palmolive contains ammonia and worked very well for me to clean a clogged print head. It's easily available in most grocery stores here in Sweden.

Best regards,
Johan

Ajax, in the old classic bottle, is what I am using as well. In fact I used it today to clean my monitor and my 3-year old niece commented on how nice it smells. She liked the purifying smell of ammonia :)
