Is the number I got from Canon Canada and posted above not for Canada?

Who knows how much the print head will be if the stock market tanks. By then will you be able to get your money out of the bank to buy a print head... :idunno

Everything is no worries according to the government.


As usual I probably did not use precise language. Let me try try again!

1: Print heads are generally significantly more expensive in Canada than the USA.

2: Calling Canon USA from Canada to circumvent this will not work because CANON USA transfers the call to Canon Canada, often without full disclosure, and you may not be aware you are dealing with another jurisdiction.

3: The most economical option for Canadians is to buy on eBay where the price is set by market fundamentals, and is usually significantly cheaper than Canon Canada. eBay avalability can fluctuate and could be problematic if you need a print head in a hurry.

4: in reply to the questions:

Answer: I really dont know. It was not the question I was answering. No big deal - I am hoping the points above clarify for Canadians looking for a cheap option on a Pro100 print head.

Not that I want to take the subject away from Canadian telephone numbers and the apparent weakness of the stock market................., but with regard to printhead failure, the suggestion, (which I think came from @turbguy), to run in quiet mode and ease the demand on cartridge ink flow, seems to work with little noticeable time delay or frustration. I have left mine in that mode for several weeks now and forgotten about it.

One of the other benefits is that the mean electrical power dissipation in the head elements will also be reduced and it may be enough to reduce the head failure rate. Has anyone had a failure of a printhead when running in Quiet Mode?

...This will probably only work if you catch it right away,
..., so I put a good cart in and let it sit for a couple of days and then took the head out and went at it with the syringe. Prints like new now!

But getting these printheads when your livelihood depends on it is scary!

Agree on these points, intervening early is key.

As for printheads, for an expensive printer as the PRO9500II, second hand prices seldom go under the price of a new head (about €150), so I don't need to hoard.
For cheap dye printers scanning second hand sites for printers at 1/3 until 1/2 the price of the head is still feasible, although supply declines also in Europe.

I tried to revive heads from free printers, but even if you can remove the clog, there is already electrical damage, a time bomb for the logic board.

I been using the Quiet Mode ever since @turbguy first mentioned it and like you have never given it a second taught, till you brought the subject up.

I lost half of the cyan nozzles on my iX4000 print head last month but put that down to wear and tear because of its age 6 years, straight lines missing can only mean one thing.

I ran a nozzle check just to show the damaged cyan nozzles this morning but surprisingly only half of the BK black were working, so I ran a head clean on the black and the new nozzle print showed the black was now gone completely.

This head was working fine yesterday and now today it’s dead, this goes to show how quickly an electrical problems can materialise itself and leave you scratching you head, it’s time to use the new head that I had purchased 18 months ago..

This is the very same head that I first encountered the Yello Jello syndrome on back in Feb -14 and after some rigorous cleaning that was unsuccessful I decided to run the printer till I could got a new head for it.

After a couple of months of continued use I left the same head soaking in Fairy washing up liquid because of the success I had reviving the head of another printer that suffered the same Yello Jello problem, both heads had been working ever since..

If I understand well, @Hat, the Yello Jello (same as I have sometimes with yellow pigment ink from a German supplier who denies this on his site :)) is not letal for the head as long as you keep it used ?

Hi @palombian, it wasn’t a pigment yellow, it was a refilled OEM CLl-42 yellow dye ink cartridge that was in use when the ink turned to gel and protected the inside of the print head, I only discovered this after the second head in another printer suffered exactly the same issue.

Unrelated I also had this German pigment yellow that gelled up and cause much the same problem in one of my pigment printers and it too cleared up afterwards but not before the magenta nozzles burned out and I lost that head, I was to busy watching the yellow to notice it.. :(

$150 Cdn. from Canon is on the cheap side, at least at the depot here in Winnipeg. Closer to $200, and that was six months ago.
