Hi. I have a canon printer that is using the PGI-520BK and CLI-521. Is it safe to assume that I can also use the US-versions called PGI-220BK and CLI-221, or are Canon so greedy that they don't allow that ?
Infact on ebay you will find ARChips for the 220/221 and ARChips for the 520/521
I have tested 220/221 on my 520/521 and they don't work. . .
Technically there is a way to use them (which i will not describe in this post) but you you disable CD printing
Just compare it to the DVD-regions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5: these are not interchangeable so I consider it as a market protection. But the resetter, available in january, will be able to reset all the cartridges of all regions.
Thank you guys. That is indeed very disappointing, and I just might have to use refills instead of original US-cartridges.
@spiderman: I assume you talk about using US-firmware. Anyway, losing DVD-print is bad, so not an option.
@pharmacist: I have just read about the resetter for older cartridges. Sounds interesting, but will it also alter the region-settings (which I need), or will it only mark the cartridge as full ?
Thank you for all the help. I don't think I want to buy those highpriced european canon cartridges and since Canon has decided US-cartridges is a no-no, I will have to find another option.
I have never tried to refill, and if there are other options, I would prefer that, even though it might be more expensive.
I looked at patronenhandel.de. I can see the price for the resetter is 15 euro, which I think is a fair price, and I can see they also have compatible 520/521 cartridges with or without chip. Is that an reliable option to either buy the resetter and chipless cartridges, or just buy the chipped cartridges ?
