And rest the print head on a soft surface during soaking (like folded paper toweling) to avoid damaging the VERY FRAGILE nozzle plate (where the ink comes out onto the paper)!

Thank you all so much!!! I cleaned the print head and it is working perfect I really appreciate the help. I soaked it for several hours, dried a little in a slightly warm oven then finished with hair dry on low.

Congrats! You may still want to contact Canon to see if they still have printheads and what they cost...

Hi, I took a small flat bottom tupperware container (with folded paper towels ...after Turbguy cautioned me), warmed (in microwave) filtered water from the fridge, poured in a little ammonia (probably 1/8 cup, a few squirts of Dawn dishing liquid and a few sprays of windex. I cook that way too I printed for a while last night and getting great photos. Thanks again!!

Personally I start with soaking in only a few mm's to avoid moistening the electronic parts.
Afterwards I place it on toilet paper and drip the cleaning solution on every inlet to verify if the channels are free.
I stopped using household products with unknown composition and went for pure "pharmacist solution" if necessary with a few drops of ammonia.

I only remove the head when 2 normal and 1 deep cleaning cycle do not return a good nozzle check.
If possible scan with higher resolution (600 dpi is OK) to see the individual nozzle prints.

Thanks for the info. It is quite a cocktail. The water from the fridge is probably from defrosting? If so it is a form of distilled water. Both the Ammonia and the dish washing liquid have likely improved the cleaning abilities of the water.

But why not use Windex? Windex is tried and tested for print head unclogging, it is used "as is", so if you can buy Windex (Original formula with Ammonia-D), then I would recommend using that. Being located in Europe I cannot find Windex in the stores, but a window cleaner "Ajax" from Colgate-Palmolive also works well.

Else "Pharmacists Cleaning Solution" is also tried and tested.
