Hi everyone, the thread title says it all really. I've had a Canon MP620 for about a year and it had been doing fine. I was happy with it, especially since I had discovered pharmacist's post on the German Refilling Method. Last month I started having a problem with the pigment black, and through the help of members of this forum (mainly ghwellsjr) I was able to diagnose the problem as a defective purge system. There is some debate as to whether or not the purge system problem was caused by the ink I was refilling with or not, but at this point I am not sure it matters. When I purchased the printer from Staples, I also bought the extended service plan. After diagnosing the problem with the purge system, I requested a replacement and I received it yesterday. Of course it was a beat up "refurbished" unit. It still had dirt and hair inside it and the platen was scratched. I called the warranty servicer to complain and they are sending me (supposedly) a Staples gift card for $149. So now my question for all of you is, what do I buy?
Here are my thoughts/concerns:
Now that I am familiar with the German refilling method and just recently purchased a chip re-setter for the PGI-220 and CLI-221, I'd like to stick with something that uses those cartridges and ink, unless there is a compelling reason not to. Of course after reading pharmacist's thread on Canon's replacement plans for those cartridges, I'm not sure how wise that is.
I need the scanner capability, anything else is a plus or not necessary. Again, if there was a very compelling reason, I would consider a separate scanner but I really don't have the space for it.
Of course, I also don't want to spend much more than the gift card is worth. Maybe up to $200 total.
Thanks in advance for the coming words of wisdom!
