HI,
I just bought a used MP830, described as having a poor magenta channel.

My olde iP5200 died recently, and I have loads of inks left, plus a chip resetter, a spare working head, and a new unused print head, so it made sense to find a machine that could use these. Given the vintage, new is no longer an option, hence I found an MPO830, described as in good condition, other than afailed magenta, using cheap inks. With previous generous advice from here (GHWellsSnr), I;ve learned about print head cleaning and pourge unit unbloicking, so decided to have a go.

However the MP830 seems to have more problems than just the magenta that the advert described...

To start with, on power-up, the LCD screen displays what I presume is an error message in Japanese (I think!?!), and all command buttons generate a warning tone, and no other action. The menus do not scroll (even in Japanese). A yellow lamp (empty ink tank warning) is illuminated on the main panel.
I have tried a system reset as found on various webpages- Link below), but this does not work.
Thinking the problem with the LCD may be linked to a faulty print head or empty ink tanks, I tried to change haed and/or inks, leading to..
Problem No.2- the print head will not move to the central access position when the front cover is hinged down.

Does anybody have any ideas (apart from the obvious one - i.e. that I should have tried it before buying it!)

Thanks,
Jon

Is there an alphanumeric error code you can post?

Is the Scanner Lock Button set to unlock? The button is found under the top lid in the front lefthand portion near the scanner glass.

BUT just when I thought I was up and running...

The problem with the magenta needed fixing, and when I'd had similar issues with my iP5200, I found that by cleaning the purge line was the answer.

I tried this on the MP830 using a weak ammonia solution.., and got an immediate improvement in magenta. However I repeated the treatment, and have now got a persistent Error 6500 code on start-up, which locks out all other functions.

Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated!

Thanks,
Jon
