Interesting! "Blue Baby" used to describe the lack of closure of the foramen ovale in the heart septum of a newborn that mixed oxygenated and non-oxygenated blood. Venous blood has a decidedly blue color that caused the infant to appear blue in color rather than the healthy pink color that is imparted by arterial (oxygenated) blood. With the advent of heart surgery to close the defect, infants with this problem now survive and thrive.

Correct, it is still used to describe the heart condition, thank goodness for modern medical skills that give the wee precious ones a fighting chance.

Methemoglobinemia is where nitrate poisoning stops the blood being able to carry oxygen efficiently, so producing a blue colouration in the victim, hence the "blue baby" description again. Similar symptons are presented, different cause. Who'd be a doctor?

Anyway, hope the cartridge storing goes well, personally I would skip the ink intake and concentrate on the alcohol soaked pads...mmmm
