I have been able to fit aftermarket chips onto CLI-8 bodies. It is not for the inexperienced. Just like how Pro-1 aftermarket chips are fitted onto the Canon OEM bodies, the identical procedure is carried out on CLI-8 bodies. I have a good stock of aftermarket chips that are resettable and work on the Pro-100. This procedure however needs to carried out with a level of precision as if too much is milled out the reservoir will be breached. On the Pro-1 too much milling does not compromise the sealed body, not in this case.

Are these chips available to refillers from you or elsewhere?

Thanks!

You can purchase a set from Canon, but you'd be better off searching Craiglist where folks are selling them new as low as $125, which includes the cartridges, print head, printer and some even include the 13x19 paper - much better deal than spending $125 just for the cartridges from Canon. I've purchased 2 from Craiglist at $125 each - just picked up one this past Saturday and the bonus was she included the pack of 13x19 Luster paper, which retails for $100 itself.

Craiglist in Tenessee

Here's one listed for $139 and it includes the photo paper, too.

Yeah, but you can only get one printer via rebate. So, I am confused. Aren't you looking to source a 2nd set of cartridges? I just showed you how and how to get even more than just the cartridges on the cheap. Oh well, I tried to help.

Have fun and good luck.

Peace.

I was wondering how Canon is able to give such huge cash backs for their printers in the USA. Here in the EU, the price of those printers is at least € 450.- without the paper deal and NO cash back off any kind and importing from the USA is no option, because the import fees are based on the official prices and VAT is to be paid too, making it even more expensive than buying it locally....Arghhh:barnie.

@pharmacist, maybe it’s because the US have only one Canon distributor, whereas here in the EU we have many, we also have the problem of many languages and different franchises plus waters to cross, resulting in several different Courier companies to overcome.

It wouldn’t work in the EU because if one Canon dealer discounted their printers, they would not benefit wholly or directly from the ink sales it would generate in other parts of the Union.
Plus local taxes are also different, but in the US, it’s all nationwide, rather than individual states, like it is on this side of the pond, that’s my take on it anyway...

As in my original post, I am looking for empties.Even at $5 per cartridge, that's $40 for a full set plus PC ink.
Also, these rebates are frequent..........and you can ask a friend/relative to buy one for you, or just wait until the next sale.
In any event, $129 after rebate is less than $139, which is the price on that Craigslist printer (which is over an hour's drive from me). I sold the ink (OEM) for $99 on Ebay. Plus my new one has a warranty. I'll buy and fill empties with PrecisionColor Inks.

Thanks! Fred

An update:

I had to order some items from both Octoinkjet...and Precisioncolors, so I picked up 2 sets of empties (better price than Ebay).

Then, I checked current Canon rebates (new for Jan 2017), on the Pro 100
and got an even better deal on my second Pro 100. I'll sell the ink from it as well, so my net will be about $29 for the Pro 100 with printhead! I'll probably a third one later (maybe more!) just for the printhead as insurance.

Since I will only refill, there is no reason to not sell the OEM ink and buy used cartridges, as I see it.
Now, where will I store these huge boxes?

Thanks to all for your answers,
Fred

One reason to hold off selling the included OEM ink is if the Printer requires Canon service while under warranty. Then it is best to fit the OEM carts before returning or sending to the service centre.

A very small risk of manufacturing defects I know, so you may feel OK ignoring it with out of pocket expense of only $29.00
