I just remembered, I watched some of that movie only a couple of months ago. A story line that wouldn't make it to Youtube today. Illogical, why would an outpost like Laramie, WY be sending goods by wagon train to what is obviously by people and terrain, southern New Mexico?

I really rather doubt NM had set up their New Mexico Film Office by 1955. All these economic development offices (give aways) everywhere are a relatively recent phenomena.

There are a lot of reasons a lot of movies are shot in NM, from unique geography to being nonunion. Most of the movies back in the 1950's and 1960's for TV and even some cinematic films had their outdoor scenes show inn the Santa Susanna mountains at the very northwestern-most part of the San Fernando Valley. If the terrain is a lot of huge boulders instead of mesas, desert, or vista's, there ya go.
