Great Post saved the info. for general information for the future. Whilst you had the printer down to its bare bones to avoid a further dismantling was an external ink tank ever considered?

passed on the external waste tank. figured at 37,000 pages once i changed the pads, would not need to do it again before the printer died. now at 44,000 pages and going strong.

canon tech manual says MP830 has a product life of 19,000 pages, living on borrowed time at 44,000 pages

also all 4 of my CLI8 carts are original, nearly 7 years old, each cart has been refilled over 70 times, never purged.

the canon bean counters are not pleased.....

But the printer refill angels are very pleased.

Just to be clear, all four CLI-8 cartridges are

1) OEM
2) ~7 years old
3) Each refilled over 70 times
4) Never needed purging
5) Durchstich refilling method used.

Did I mention DURCHSTICH method used?

correct, guess the refill angels are watching over. below are some more info/numbers

CLI-8 YELLOW 70 refills - orig OEM cart
CLI-8 MAGENTA 76 refills - orig OEM cart
CLI-8 CYAN 74 refills - orig OEM cart

Totals Refills 472 carts

german method, squeeze bottles, hobbicolors, OCP ink, resetter, never purged

pretty amazing savings over nearly 7 years. also have started 2 others refilling to share the savings

much thx to all on this forum, would be interested in other's refill numbers

jimbo123,....I want to thank you for proving to many others that this can be done and for mentioning my Repair Manual. Your pictures are outstanding and you must have had some experience in photography as most people never can get a good closeup and keep it in focus.

For those interested,.. I have taken dozens of printers like the MP830 apart in an effort to find and fix problems. That is how I create Repair Manuals for virtually all Canon printers. Like jimbo says,.."It's not hard if you have the right instructions and pictures to guide you.

Jimbo,..with your permission I will add your photos to my own since many of yours are better that the ones I shot.

FYI, my MP830 has printed 9,000 pages since the waste pad change 6 months ago, now over 46,000 pages printed, still going strong.

i did set up an MP980 recently, to be used as a wireless photo printer, i can see/feel the difference in quality compared to my older MP830.
