@websnail: Yes buying a used printer online can be fraught with problems. This is why, unless you sell a heck of a lot of goods on eBay, they withhold payment to your PayPal account for either 30 days or until they get positive feedback. They don't care if you have sixteen years (who? me?) with a 100% rating.

I put a lot of stock on a seller's grammar and ability to describe. There's a good correlation between ratings and language skills, which I believe are indicative of life and social skills. Ask a question or two, see what the response is like.

Caveat emptor.

Oh heck yes, completely agree... I've had around a 15% failure rate over the past few years and I'd actually agree on the language skill point as a real key. Throw in responsiveness to questions, photos, etc.. all can help.

Not sure what empty caves have to do with it all though :hu

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man...

It doesn't make you a better person to use correct grammar, spelling and punctuation, but it does make you a more efficient communicator.

Ah yes, the subtlety of Canadian language and pronunciation. "It's all aboot the eh!"

Just to prove I am not the only idiot on this site, riddle this:

1: You can't breathe when your tongue is out.

(Put your tongue back in your mouth, you silly person)

2: You can't say the letter ''P'' without separating your lips.

(You just attempted to do it)

Boy, the voice of (bad) experience, eh? Me, too.

...

When Canon ships a new printer, there is a block of foam that prevents the head from moving to the right. Duplicate that, with whatever.

...

I agree 100%. If I did that there was a big chance the PRO9500 survived the transport.

Happily enough the insurance accepted the Canon guidelines.

This was a special case (for a special buyer), I always go on location to buy a printer, and only sell to someone who is interested enough to come to my place.
Agree personal contact tells a lot about the merchandise.
I had the best deals with either well-heeled/educated people who do not have to maximize the value, either with poorly educated who (sadly) manage their money bad.

Exactly my point. But since you used far fewer words, I'd say that you are the better communicator!

I recall wanting to buy a used engine for my motorcycle. One looked pretty good on eBay, decent price, close enough that the shipping wouldn't be bad. I asked a few simple questions that were not well addressed and with overall language skills that wouldn't have passed a second grade test. I decided to not buy for that reason.

I checked on that sale some weeks later and, oh my, was the buyer unhappy! Whew!

Elusive answers tell you everything about the item you are buying, when I am looking for printers I ask for a nozzle check print. I think some use that second grade language skills to look like they don´t know about technicalities and they declare helpless when answering your questions
